Perrin's Starling - Part 3: Starting the Lining

I have a little progress to report on Perrin's Starling ... and a little is better than nothing.  Baby steps, baby steps.

Two weeks ago I picked out the tear-away stabilizer from the label.  If you've ever done this, you know it's more work than it seems.  :)

Last night I pulled out the ironing board, the cutting mat, and set up my sewing machine.  I was going to stay up a little later than I should have and finish sewing the lining.  I was thwarted by a lack of coordinating thread.  I could hardly believe it: no white, no cream, no blues or greens that match the fabric.

It might be a couple of weeks before I can trek over to a fabric store, but when I do, I'm buying a rainbow's worth of spools.

I had to put everything away, so I pinned the lining and the cut-out pocket to the ironing board before I slipped it back into the closet so it will stay nice and flat.

Oh, how I can empathize with you! I have a beautiful bag that is just waiting for the perfect lining, but I haven't found it yet. Unfortunately, there are no decent fabric stores around! I'd about die for a Hobby Lobby or Joann right now!! BTW I'm seriously diggin' those owls in the background :) x

I'm not much of an "OMG" gal but OMG! I just got my first rottary cutter and mat for Xmas this year and it is so amazing. I mention this because I saw yours in the last photo. I got the biggest mat they had to fit on my 1970 executive steelcase desk (it's as classy as it sounds.) And my strongest magnets will still work through the mat to metal desk to hold patterns in place. I wish I was your sewing neighbor. You could have walked over for some thread.

LeeAnn ... I wish you were my sewing neighbor, too! Although I did have fun buying thread yesterday. :) The rotary cutter and mat are new essentials for me. I wish the carpet was magnetic so I could use your handy trick!

Oh man, I HATE when stuff like that happens. I myself would have said a few choice words and maybe banged some stuff around for good measure.

Road rage? Nah, I got craft rage, lol. :)

Things like that are one of the reasons that I end up buying thread for each project. I might have 5 spools of white, but I'll definitely not find I don't have any during a project. Of course, I'm working on something completely different than sewing right now.

Seanna Lea ... Yep! I try to keep it all in one place, but I suspect the cream and white are hiding somewhere. I have cream and white bobbins, so I know I USED to have spools. :)
