DIY Business Cards

I'm going to Maker Faire in San Mateo on Saturday.  I can't find my stash of futuregirl.com business cards, so I decided to make some tonight.

I round-punched the corners of square memorization cards.  All of my mutli-colored pens were leaking (why?!) so I only had black markers to use to draw my cards.  To make up for the lack of color-pizazz, I used a crochet hook to lark's head (sure, that's a verb) a small fluff of rainbow thread into the pre-existing hole in each card.

I made 30 and I've vowed to give them _all_ away tomorrow.  This is my way of making me introduce myself and talk to people.  It's totally going to work (remember to SMILE!).

It was just a silly little doodle ... and it's *still* a silly little doodle ... but I think it's awfully cute.  Even if it *is* something a third-grade unicorn* would pick for its Birthday invitations.

I'm also hoping to tweet from my phone during my trip out there.  I won't be getting  any tweets on my phone (I'm not that fancy) so if you say, "Hi" via twitter, I won't know until I get home.

I'm also going to be super-good about taking photos ( ... positive affirmations ... ).  I should have a series of photos of me with famousy craftspersons (I'm looking at you, Natalie!) to share with you after I get back.

* Or a certain third-grader named "Alice."

3rd grade unicorns are known for their excellent taste. ; )
Great last minute improv. Funky coloured nail polish looks surprising good on cardstock if you're up for giving that a try sometime.

Loved your recent post about knitting and making friends in the park. It's amazing. Sometimes it's great to carry around some weird large whimisical thing because it really sparks conversation and interaction. We took a bus recently carrying a gigantic container of Kimchi and you wouldn't believe how many people asked us about it. Yay for connecting with strangers!

Look forward to your post-Maker Faire posts so I can live vicariously.

Andie ... Nail polish is a good idea! I don't have any, though. Maybe I should ... ;)

Your giant jar of Kimchi sounds hilarious. Kim Werker has an interesting post on Make & Meaning where she talks about carrying around an ugly doll with her to break the ice. Check it out http://makeandmeaning.com/2010/03/13/setting-yourself-up-for-win/

These are fabulous! I ran into a similar situation last month but wasn't nearly as clever...this idea rocks, you can even use them as bookmarks. Cute, quirky and I love the fact that they are handmade.
