Five Years of Rampant Craft Bloggery

Five whole years of craft blogging ...

I always forget my blogaversary because of Thanksgiving, which is funny because the first craft I posted was Thanksgiving-related.  I didn't remember this year at all, it was Kavitha who reminded me.

Big hugs to everyone!  I love being here. :)

I want to try something new.  I don't know how this will shake out or if you'll even have something to say about it, but I'm curious enough to try.  I want you to pick my next big blog project/tutorial/pattern/video.

My crafty time is super limited right now, so I haven't done much in the way of big blog-projects.  You know, things for you.  People email or comment and say things like "I'd like a tutorial on this." or "When will you release this as a pattern?"  I love doing those kinds of projects, but the list of potentials has gotten so long, I don't even know where to begin.

What are you hanging out here hoping I'll eventually post? Tell me in the comments.

Well, I would really, really love your pattern for all of those adorable wristlets. Or maybe the hex bag. Definitely two favorites of mine.

Well this is my first visit here! I am knitting and crochet obsessed so that kind of stuff would be great, but I'm sure anything which you're passionate about will be worth me reading about. Off to browse!

Gee I am embarrassed... :P Anyways I adore your blog because you bring out your 'process of crating' so nicely.. Painstakingly prepared tutorial, or a just a casually written paragraph, and awesome photographs.... be it anything..the spirit is just catches on... Cheers!! Please continue.

I agree with Kavitha that you bring out your "process of crafting" so nicely. There are only a few people who can do that. So whatever you choose as your next blog project it will be loved.
Btw you remember I love those wristlets, you get the idea..hahaha!

I just saw something interesting when perusing ebay...afghan crochet hooks. Have you ever seen/used them before? They're very strange looking, a crochet hook with a cable attached sort of like circular knitting needles, but with a knob on the end. What are they for/how do you use them?
12/3/2010 2:30 AM

futuregirl replied ...
tori ... Those are "afghan hooks" for afghan or tunisian crochet. Tunisian crochet creates a woven kind of crochet fabric. My leg warmers http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/2006/1/story-of-legwarmers.aspx and the purse designed by PlanetJune are tunisian crochet http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/2010/11/bright-stripe-purse.aspx

Happy blogaversary! I don't have nearly as much time to read my craft blogs as I used to, but your blog is always one of the first I check.

My request isn't so much for a tutorial, but an update: I'm dying to see how your chair cover came out! It looks AMAZING. I can't tell you how much I love this idea. You're brilliant!

Congratulations again, and thanks for the 5 years of making the world a more colorful place. :)

Congratulations on 5 years of fantastic blogging... you deserve some sort of award for all the beautiful things you have shown us and all the inspiration we have gotten from your posts.

Thanks a million and can't wait to see what you decide to make next :-)

Futuregirl... too many things to choose from! I would love to see you make something from the Vintage Japanese Craft Magazine (book?) -- like the sweater you said was your favorite, the one with granny squares that were not kaleidoscopic. Also I would love to see more of the Peacock sweater you were designing. My favorite things about your project posts: the many pictures and the nerdy detail that you go into with all the figures and math, I love to follow the project to the finished result!

This is totally unrelated to this post, but made me think of you & the loopy vest phenomenon-- these are "Sweater Boots" that appear to be crocheted
(although they're described as knitted).

If I had to pick a current favorite, I'd probably have to go with loving the chair cover you've been working on. If I had to ask for some sort of tutorial, I wouldn't mind something covering some knitting basics like pointers on weaving in ends or going backwards & fixing mistakes, but that's more because I haven't gotten around to getting myself any new-to-knitting books (I kind of dove right into knitting, learning as I go... who needs instructions? ;)
..I'm not sure I answered the questions you asked, I just commented a lot. I think I just like to see what someone else is working on.
Keep up all the good bloggishness!

Congratulations on 5 years! Like many others, I am happy reading whatever you post--it truly is the way you work things out that is the most inspiring to me. I also like occasionally seeing your workspaces because they are tidy and organized and inspiring in their own way.

I am new to your blog so I am not sure if you have done something like this. I love reading your blog, but have limited experience with specific patterns etc. Anything you recommend to get started on doing more crafting etc. Books or resources that you found particularly helpful?

Congrats on 5 years!

ooooh OOOH, I just remembered that you mentioned you wanted to make yourself another hat. I'm all about the hat, so I'd like to use this recomment to slide that up to the top of my What-I-Check-Futuregirl-For-More-Than-Once-A-Day-List. I'd even offer essistance for this one! (probably not necessary, I'm just excited about... uh, someone else's hat...)

dear futuregirl,
i just finished making a starling bag and lining from your fabulous tutorials. i am in awe of you. you're clearly an accomplished crocheter and sewer but i absolutely love the clarity of your teaching. i had such fun following your instructions - felt like i had a friend there guiding my tentative way. thanks heaps for sharing.
i'd love you to do something from a japanese book too. after you wrote about them i went looking and there's loads of lovely stuff.
thanks again, eekgirl

MightyJesse ... Just in case you didn't see already, I have stuffie patterns for an octopus, seahorse, and some assorted sea creatures on my free downloads page http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/downloads.aspx If you already have those, are there other ones you'd like to see made into patterns? Any in particular you'd like to see as a tutorial?

I thought about your blogaversary, but was having a hectic week. Then it slipped my mind. Luckily, I didn't forget my son's fifth birthday!
So congratulations to you - and to us, readers who found you.
To tell you the truth, more than crafting, I'm missing stories about the kooky side of you - I mean like that one of you buying a whole lot of lip gloss and so.

Babs ... What a wonderful comment. I try really hard to just be me, which is difficult since I know there are a lot of people "staring" at me and being in large groups makes me off-kilter. I just pretend I'm talking to one person when I write my posts and it totally works for me. :)

Wahoo on 5 years!

I learned to crochet when I was 13. I have NEVER been able to understand knitting. What I would like to learn is how to knit. I just can't wrap my brain around in.

What I REALLY want to knit, is fingerless gloves. Specifically, I want to make some fingerless gloves like Penny wears in "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog". I crochet similar colored ones, and they aren't too bad.. but knitted just looks so much smoother looking.
