Crochet Wrapping

I'm going to spend time with my friend Korallin tomorrow.  I got her family a little something.  Since I don't celebrate Christmas, I don't have a stash of appropriate wrapping paper on hand, so I crocheted some.

I actually first tried to do a fancy macramé net, but that got goofy quick.  This crochet wrapping went through a prototyping stage, (read: the first three attempts were frogged) but once I got the first couple of rows worked out, the rest was easy.

Love it.
I made little boxes this year for absolutey no rational reason. I know the right person will appreciate the crocheted wrapping paper. :)

Neat-O! Makes the gift more special to know there's extra time and thought put into all the details. The macramé net sounded like a nice idea. Are you going to give that another try in the future?

Jeannine | SaylorMade ... Probably not. Macrame in a circle is crazy-making. I think I need to practice macrame in a straight line before I attempt a circle again. :)

Well, that is definitely more interesting than some of our friends. They usually don't wrap at all and just give it to you in a plastic bag from the store. I don't mind, but it isn't festive at all.

Seanna Lea ... Ha! Well, this was about the extent of my Christmas-ness for the year, so I wanted to milk it for all the festiveness I could.

That's a beautiful wrapping. I wouldn't have thought to do that. Pity I don't crochet!

Heather ... Thanks, Heather! You *could* know how to crochet. Something like this is super-cake to make.

I didn't know you don't celebrate Christmas! I don't have Christmas wrapping paper lying around either. I have a big roll of polka dots from when I had the store and that's it. I still haven't taken up crochet so I use whatever else I can find- a favorite of mine is paper bags with pretty decorations found around my craft room.

I love this wrapping of yours! I'm totally curious to know what the gift was.

angelina ... I got them snowflake cookie cutters because they are always making cookies and other baked goodies as a family. I wanted to get them an assortment of sprinkles, possibly holiday themed, but Williams Sonoma didn't have anything like that.

We mostly only celebrate personal holidays like birthdays, anniversaries, blogaversaries ... although we have a special place in our heart for his family's tradition of going out for Chinese food on Christmas. This year we did Thai since we'd eaten Chinese a couple days before. Close enough!

Futuregirl - I am learning a bit of crochet. I tried it once and couldn't get my tension even. I really took to knitting and recently started trying to crochet again. I do much better holding my yarn in the right hand with the hook - the way I hold it for knitting. People look at me funny but it works. :D

Heather ... There aren't any rules, except to do what works for you. :) I knit better Continental, with the yarn in my left hand, probably because I started out crocheting. :)

Allie ... Google is a girl's best friend! ;) I just found this circle granny placemat tutorial for you http://www.purlbee.com/granny-circle-placemats/ Just follow it until the packaging is the size you want, then stop increasing. Experiment and you'll find something that works. :)
