Blocking The Tunisian Crochet Purse

My train ride to Korallin's house was an hour each way, which was awesome for crocheting.  I finished up the purse body for my tunisian purse.

I pre-cut the yarn for all the stripes the night before, so I wouldn't have to carry 13 balls of yarn with me on the train. :)  The strap took about 40 minutes and was done in the space of one TV show.

I didn't take before pix, but believe me, Tunisian crochet is CURLY.  And the edges are wavy and weird.  Blocking is not optional for this purse.

Can't wait for them to dry!  The way June designed this purse, the last step creates both the edging *and* the seams.  Easy and smart!

You are the Queen CraftBorg. I would love to assimilate your perfectly balanced random stripe generating skills. I'm eager to see your toggle/button choices.
My next not-entirely-necessary craft purchase is being blamed on the hive.

Kelly ... My secret on this project is that I made a white stripe after every 5 color stripes (except at the very beginning when I had no plan at all). Then I tried not to use a color in the current 5-stripe block that was in the last 5-stripe block. I also tried alternating light and dark colors.

And it's *always* the hive's fault. Always.

Can't wait to see it totally finished! I have a trip to the snow coming up soon... I just might *have* to buy some yarn to try out Tunisian crochet while we're up there... darn, lol

I make curly crochet all the time. Probably because my crochet gauge is frequently an accident waiting to happen.

Alice, I love your stripes so much! And also your pre-cutting of the yarn. Such a good idea (says the one who would totally shlep 13 balls of yarn...).

Kim Werker ... Well, I actually took 3 projects with me for the two hours of train rides, so there were many many balls of yarn already. ;) Plus, if I didn't pre-pick the colors, I would have spent the whole train ride just trying to make stripe decisions.

Hey I was wondering if you have a tutorial for blocking. I have recently finished making a challah cover using tunisian stitch and am trying to find the best way to uncurl it.

Thank you!

Ashley ... I don't have a tutorial for blocking. I'm sure there are plenty out there, though, if you do a search. :)

Love love the colors! I don't think I've ever blocked a crochet project before. Tunisian is probably not for me then... :)

That is gorgeous - I love those colours. Not sure I could pull off anything quite that neat though...

That is a great tip on your color placement. That is a big struggle for me. I will use that on my next striping project. Thanks!

I had a Tunisian phase many years ago -- I may just have to pick it up again. What I found really fun was doing color work with a double-ended hook. I hadn't thought about that for a long time... Oh, I'm just full of ideas now! You're so inspiring!! :)

Hi Alice, I started on a Tunisian bag in Ravelry (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/striped-afghan-stitch-shoulder-bag)and yes they curl like crazy, half way through I decided to make a starling bag and its much faster. Almost finished the starling and hating the Tunisian project every time I looked at it. Am not really enjoying making the Tunisian bag at all!
