Knitted & Crocheted Chair Covers

When I saw the photo of the color stripes in my first post about the knitted chair covers, I noticed something that really got under my skin: accidental red-white-blue.  Sure, it's a little off-hue, but it's still there and it pulls me out of the mix of colors and makes those three dominant.

So I went back to swatching.

I really wanted to keep the silver, so I tried using it in between the stripes, but it's just too close to the mustard and pea green to work.

I settled on just taking out the silver (it's actually called linen).  I love how rich these six colors look together.

The chair bottom was taking FOREVER-and-a-day to knit, so I decided to do the back of the chair in a crochet motif.  I love the way these mini-hexes look.  I think they will work well together.

I'm almost done with one chair.  I can't wait to get it installed.

Oh and I don't know but I liked the one with a single strip of "silver" in between more!

shumaila ... I like the *idea* of the single stripe. I think a black would have worked better for that, though.

I'm sure it looks more like red, white and blue in person, but in most of your photos the color I'm assuming is red looks more like mulberry. It's never a color I'd associate with patriotism, because it isn't quite primary enough.

It definitely looks better to me without the single color stripes.

Seanna Lea ... You're right that they aren't quite patriotic, but they didn't blend well to my eye. Glad you like the new mix!

nancymoo ... I work with a bunch of guys, so they will probably not even notice (until I say, "Hey, look at the seat covers I made!").

I thought the stripes looked nice before, but they are so much nicer now without the silver, nice as it is as a colour in its own right. Definitely a god decision and I am loving the crochet/stripe combo too. Go, you!

Whoa almost done with one? That felt fast. Can't wait to see it.

Kuky ... It feels slow to me because I had to re-knit half the stripes. Ha! The second one will feel fast.

Looks great - I prefer it without the single lines.

You are so good - I always skip the swatching part and make things up as I go along. I am getting pretty skilled at undoing my work, mind...

UK lass in US ... Well, I swatched the first one, too, so I guess it doesn't always save you from frogging. ;)

Hey Alice! It's been a LONG time since I was able to sit down and catch up on your blog (and all of my other neglected blogs), but that's what happens when you move cross-country and then have a baby. Looks like you've come a long way with your knitting :) I really love the color scheme for your chair covers.

Oh wow, these are going to look SO nice! How I'd love to have covers like these on the four horrible grey rolling chairs we just got.
