I've actually taken the time to start reading Color Knitting the Easy Way. One of the techniques it talks about is knit-slide. I thought it might make my crazy phone cozy easier to knit because I wouldn't have all these knotted ends to deal with. Although, I'm pretty sure the author would recommend against trying this technique with 11 colors.
Knit-slide involves using double pointed needles. You start all the colors on the same edge (the right edge for me above). Then you knit color one across ... then you knit color two across ... then you knit color three across ... you get the picture. Above I have completed the knit rows for all 11 colors.
Each time you knit a row, you have to *slide* the work back to the right edge of the needle to start the next row. This is why it's called it the knit-slide method.
Once you knit all the colors, then you turn your work and you purl each of the colors across in turn. You carry the yarns up the side of the work. You can use this technique as long as you are completing an odd number of rows per color ... for example, 3-row-tall stripes ... or 1-row-tall stripes, like mine.
I was knitting on the bed, and when I saw the book "Color Knitting the Easy Way" nestled in that chaos of yarn, I had to take a photo. I don't care how easy something is, I'll find a way to make it hard! Ha!
