Handmade Nation Rocks

I saw Handmade Nation tonight.  I loved it!  The opening credits are *amazing* in and of themselves.   By the end of the movie I was so excited and happy and hopeful.  I was ready to conquer the world with a needle and thread!  It's a wonderful representation of the handmade community.  I loved hearing people tell their stories and talk about their passions.

If there are no screenings near you, fear not!  It's going to be released on DVD in September.  You'll be able to buy it from Buy Olympia.

Earlier in the day, I saw Faythe walking around the Buyer's market.  I summoned up the guts to walk over and ask her to take a photo with me.  Excuse the blurriness, it wasn't very bright in the convention hall.

Faythe actually let me take a couple photos, and we asked a guy to take three more of us.  They were all way-blurry.  She was cool about the whole thing, though.

In fact, when I was digging my camera out of my bag she noticed the dragon embroidery in it's ziploc and asked me about it.  It felt so nice to have someone (in-person) express interest in something I was making.

Sharing things here on my blog is awesome, and I know you totally get me, but there's something magical about being in the same room with another crafty person. :)  You know what I mean?

Oh, I wish I could make it to a screening! There aren't any near college OR home. :P

But yes, I do know what you mean! There are all sorts of crafty types online, and it's fun to get support that way... but facial expressions and verbal praise mean so much more than words on a screen.

when i meet someone who crochets i get very very excited and i want to know all about how they make things, since i taught myself i like to see other people's techniques.

the online community of crafters is a very special thing, though. its so excellent to see what other people are doing all over the world.

Yay! I loved the movie & was thrilled to meet in you in person. My mom is coming in tomorrow from Texas & I plan to drag her around to some shops in Center City Tuesday! It will be my birthday so she cannot protest! LOL

I met Faythe at CHA last week and got an autographed copy of the book. She's wonderful isn't she?

Abbey ... I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself! I, too, got to see the intro twice. ;) I'm happy I got to hear Faythe talk about the movie. It really put it in perspective.
