Starling v1.0 Release

It's been almost a month and over 1300 downloads, and only a couple of minor changes have been reported for Version 0.1 Beta of the Starling Handbag.  I've decided to go ahead and release it as Version 1.0 and drop the Beta.  Yay!

Here are the changes, so you can decide if you need to download the newest version.  Chances are, you don't.  The changes aren't that big of a deal.

  • Bottom section, after Row 1, Note added which reads, "When stitching Row 1 and I get to the ch 1, I push the starting strand of yarn to the back before I rotate the piece and begin stitching down the other side.  The side with the starting strand is the inside of the handbag.  The side without the starting strand is the outside of the handbag."

  • Bottom section, Row 3 (missing "st" at end of line)  now reads, "sl st to first sc of row"

  • Handles section, Row 4 and Row 5 (missing "st" at end of line) now reads, " sl st to first sc of row"

I'm still planning on doing a chart version of the Starling Handbag Japanese craft book style to add in a subsequent release.

I also added all the handbags I've made from this pattern before I called it the Starling Handbag to the starling handbag category.

Go you!

I am so itching to start my Starling Bag but have had to force myself to finish up a couple of other WIPs first *hangs head in starter-itis-shame*

I'm proud and excited to be one of those 1300 downloads. I've finished crocheting my Starling and have paused to figure out the lining. Not the math part; your tutorial and lining worksheet are brilliant. I don't have a sewing machine and am less than confident in my hand-sewing skills. I'll press on, though. I used a 4.25 mm hook (not being able to find a 4.5) and combined with a tendency to white-knuckle-grasp things, I produced a very dense fabric. The pattern is so elegant. I started to fall in love as more of the side seam was (not) revealed and became teary when I got to the fsc of the first handle row, especially the start and where it re-attaches. So simple, so lovely. Your Starling became my rosary in devotion of new lives and unpromising beginnings. Goodness, I started off enthusiastic and ended up in the church of crochet. A simple thank you or congratulations would have worked just fine. So thank you and congratulations.

Thank *you* for taking the time to download my pattern, and for trusting me enough to spend some of your precious free time letting me be the boss of you and your hook.

I will be waitiing for the chart version of the Starling handag. I followed your written pattern. Had a little challenge because I am a visual person. So I had to read the pattern several times. Put it down for a week then came back to it. That is when it actually clicked. Thank you so much for sharing your handbag pattern.

April ... I'm catching up with old comments and I clicked through to your blog to find you've already made at least THREE handbags so far. I guess you "got" the pattern. :) Ha!
