Flower Purse Out And About

This weekend I took my Flower Purse out and about.  Sunday we went to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Philadelphia's beautiful Fairmont Park.  Very few of the cherry trees had actually bloomed, but it was a beautiful day to be out in the park regardless.

This is the first time we've gone to the festival, and I was happy to see they had several free crafty booths you could visit and make things.  I made a point to visit the origami corner.  I needed lots of help making my sakura (cherry blossom) because the printed-off-the-internet directions weren't very clear.   But I had great assistance and my bloom turned out super cute.  I tried wearing it behind my ear for a while ... until the wind threatened to blow it away.

I've been pulling at the flower purse's straps for weeks to stretch them a little, and it's paid off.  I'm totally able to get my arm through the straps so the bag can sit on my shoulders and I have both arms free.

It's unbelievable is how much stuff I can pack in that bag.  By the end of the day I swear it weighed five pounds!  The cool thing is that even full of water bottles and snacks I could still tuck it under my arm because it's so wide.

Yay for cherry trees!  Yay for giant flower purses!  And Yay for beautiful days!

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, and even though I knew you lived in Philly, it never occurred to me that you’d be at the Cherry Blossom Festival on the same day as my husband and I (we live in Reading and drove down for the day)! We were there on Sunday, too, although I spent most of my time at the Ikebana (art of Japanese flower arranging) demonstration. If I’d known you were there, I would’ve looked out for you and that awesome purse (I think I would have recognized it), but my eyes were fully occupied with another hunt - a paper and lacquer Japanese parasol. Glad to see that someone else I know went to the festival and enjoyed it as much as I did!

The purse looks fantastic - you did a great job! I'm glad you had a great time at the Fesitival! My hubby and I went a few years back and wanted to go this year but he and our little one caught a cold so we ditched this year. Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Beautiful purse. What kind of yarn did you use?

Lei Anne - I used worsted-weight cotton, like Lily Sugar and Cream.

Oh no! I had plans to attend the festival this year! :[ I totally forgot. I think it's still going on, but I've missed most of the events. Oh well. Next year...! Even though I'll probably forget... :x

What I can't wait for is the Otsukimi at Shofuso! :D (I'm a student living in Philadelphia, so please excuse my enthusiasm!)

Anyway! I love your blog--it's absolutely delightful. :]

I can tell you've had a very lovely day. :) And that purse looks absolutely gorgeous (not to mention unique). All the hardwork that went into making it was worth it, wasn't it? :)

The purse really does look amazing! Glad to see the weather is nice. My husband and I are headed that way come August (omg, it's hard to believe that it's only 4 months away)! We'll be about an hour from Philadelphia, so if you have any recommendations on things we should do/see let me know.

I love the picture of you and the bag next to the tree blossoms. That is perhaps one of my favorite projects that you've ever done. Though I'm very partial to my teal FutureGirl bag.

I just found your blog, FINALLY a blog with WONDERFUL crochet projects! This purse is beautiful, and I think I will try to recreate it, hope you don't mind - I'm still mourning a shipment of Japanese crochet books that never made it to me (in Italy) and I'm not going to try that again any time soon!

Elysia ... It's awesome, isn't it?! The pattern is in a Japanese craft book. For that info, click on the category "project - flower purse" or the category "japanese crafting" and scroll to the post "New York Weekend - Part 1". :)
