Mushroom Production In Full Gear

Well, the third time was the charm.  The blue spotted mushroom was my third prototype and it was perfect.  I've scrapped the first two prototypes (I tried to retrofit them, but it was a no-go).  Now I'm just cranking them out.

You can see here that the red one doesn't have it's under-cap ridges yet.

Each mushroom is going to have a different color for it's spots and cap edge.  The bright colors I picked make them cartoony, buy I really like them anyway.

This is the embossed felt I'm using for the stems and underside of the caps  I picked it because of the color, but the pattern really makes it mushroomy.

**  Edit:  I get all my acrylic felt from normal stores like Joann's, Micheal's, and AC Moore. **

I've been avoiding the mushroom swap Flickr group until I had my design down pat because I didn't want to be influenced (or intimidated!) by the other swappers.  Once I post this I'll add these photos to the group and check out what I might be getting in return.

These are great. I love the simplicity (yet intricacy) of them. The colors are grand, too. You're great, too. The whole damned thing is just fantabulous.

I really like the embossed felt. I've never really seen felt like that and I used to work in a craft store (JoAnn's Fabrics) It really does make them mushroomy. Nice work!

Such an interesting swap! I had a nose at the other mushrooms on Flickr for you. You have nothing to worry about. Yours is unique and as good as the rest. Do you know who your swap partner is?

With this swap you send in 5 mushrooms and you get back 5 different mushrooms. How awesome is that? I can't wait to see what five lovely ladies' work I get.

They are so cute and lovely.... The ridgets looks wonderful. You begin your way to build your mushroom farm. May be the next one is a caterpillar on the mushroom :)

The under the cap ridges are called gills.

Spoken like a true mushroom hunting geek. Well, you know, I was a member of the Fungus Federation before having kids. Nanu Nanu.

*SQUEEEE!* They are so perfect! ^_^ I hope I get one ;) And I know what you mean about scrapped prototypes - I have 2 full SKEINS worth of scrapped crochet mushrooms floating around my little apartment now! Luckily, I have a 6yr old daughter, who is more than happy to play toadstool fairy all day long ;)

(Even more luckily, I have finally settled on my pattern, and now they are all just awaiting their spots =)

These are so great! I love the colors and the textures! I think the colors are subtle and they don't look cartoony to me at all.

I adore these mushrooms! The extra pop of colour you added to the edging and the tops makes them just too CUTE! Whoever you are sending these mushrooms to is very lucky indeed!

Your 'shrooms look awesome. Is your swap from swap-bot? I am in a mushroom swap that ends, ummm I think at the end of Feb. and I have been in full mushroom production as well. Wish you were my partner...it sounds like you have had some great swaps in the past, but I often feel like I am getting the short end of the stick. Maybe you are using a different swap organizer instead of swap bot. I would love to know.

Aside from loving the awesomeness of your embossed felt, I am now super sad that I didn't join the swap. I don't like eating mushrooms and I thought this project was a little weird, but seeing that Flickr pool! OMG, I want, I want! Next time you post about a swap, I will just have to take it more seriously!
