Wait For It ...

There is nothing like a box of goodies to brighten the week.  Angelina sent me this wonderful selection of fun stuff last week.  Tiny notebooks, bath bombs, Soak, cutie keychains, stripey fabric, and a frame-worthy card ... enough to put a girl in heaven.

But then she went ...

... too ...

... far ...

She found this SEALED cross stitch kit at some sort of sale and picked it up for me.  Can you believe it?!  Of course I had to open this baby up and marvel at the pre-sorted embroidery floss, gold beads, sparkly thread, and creamy cross stitch cloth.

I'm going to love doing this cross stitch kit!  There are a bunch of projects in line first, but I love the anticipation.  I get the same kind of joy out of doing a cross stitch kit as I do from putting together a huge puzzle, making a latch hook rug, or completing a paint-by-number.  They soothe me.  They really do.

If you haven't ventured over to Angelina's blog, Dustpan Alley, you really should.  She talks about a lot of great stuff, like canning, gardening, and keeping chickens.  On top of the urban homesteader stuff, she gives readers a heaping helping of Angelina-thoughts which never fail to get me thinking, too.

I don't always agree with her 100%, which makes her blog utterly interesting.  It's great fun to follow the comments and see who falls on what side of a given issue.  Even something as benign as underpants can become a hotly debated topic in Angelina's comment threads.

The best part is that Angelina has a big heart and can be fiercely supportive of her friends, among which I'm happy to say, I number.

What a *lovely* package from Angelina! I should give you fair warning - 'Peacock Tapestry' usually takes even fanatical cross-stitchers years to complete. It is notoriously the most difficult of Teresa Wentzler's designs, but it is stunningly beautiful when done :)

Hi there :)
I have that exact same Cross Stitch kit that I completed a couple of years ago. It is absolutely stunning when completed - although takes an absolute age due to the blended colours. From memory, i think it took me about 6 months of solid work to finish. A massive tip is to have all the symbols/colours pre-threaded onto needles (I have 4 needle holders which I used to keep them in order) as that way you dont have to fiddle around threading and re-threading and storing partially used threads.
Enjoy ;)

I have been working on that cross stitch for years. It is gorgeous but lots and lots of work. Make sure you have one of those needle keepers where you can put your threads and symbol. That is a HUGE help. I also do a 10 by 10 square at a time.

OMG Alice! I have this kit--have had it for quite a few years and use it as my break-from-other-projects project! It is even more beautiful then the picture shows. There is a LOT of thread mixing to make more colors and the effect is so beautiful. You'll have so much fun with it because I've seen your posts and you are a peacock lover like me! Enjoy it!! I know you will! And by the way--i love your blog!

Oh I almost forgot--I photocopied the pattern and blew it up a little. Then I color in the symbols so it is easier to do all of the same color in one area. I found I kept missing a few stitches here and there without my new system.I marked by the list of each symbol which color belongs to which symbol so when I put it down for awhile I can still see where I am rather quickly.
