Mini-Me (well, not me-me ...)

I'd hate to give you the impression it's all cactus-fun and goodies-in-the-mail around here (not that I'd complain if that were true), so I thought I'd share some crafting ...

This is a mini-me doll I made for my boss' birthday*.  He totally wears a green shirt that exact color with white pearl buttons.  He sports a long black ponytail, too.  While he was in a meeting, we set up the cake and mini-me in his office to surprise him when he returned.  It was too much fun!  And too delicious!  Ahhh, buttercream icing, how I love you.

In the top picture you can see the word balloon I made for him, "It's My Birthday!"  Mini-me's Maxi-me already has a stack of blank word balloons at the ready (which he cut out himself from upcycled paper!).  So far, mini-me has wondered "Why don't I have arms?"  Since one of our favorite things to do at work (besides working, of course!) is yelling "FAIL" (OK, it's mostly just me, but people are starting to join in ... ) I fully expect mini-me to be sporting a FAIL balloon eventually**.

I used the body/head pattern from  Creepy Cute Crochet.  I started to do the yarn hair, but OMG I didn't have the patience to figure it out.   My one attempt unraveled in my hands.  I actually like the way the long felt strips look and they give the impression of hair without all the fussiness of individual strands of yarn.

* My boss actually reads and comments on my blog.  And he's a dude.  Pretty cool, huh?  Yeah, I think so, too. :)

** I love-love-love FAIL blog.  But I should warn you that LolCats, ManBabies, and Catladies also move me to spastic giggles.  You have been warned.

Oh, I love him! My kids have asked me to bring him home, but I'm having too much fun playing with him during the workday to bring it home yet.

And yes, I have already made a balloon that says "FAIL!"

When I came out of the meeting and headed into my office, one of our co-workers shouted "suprise!" from his desk. I stopped and turned around to look at him, not seeing any surprise anywhere, so I was quite confused until I turned and looked in the correct direction again.

It's funny-- even though work birthday parties aren't usually surprising, this one caught me totally off guard, because it was three days before my actual birthday. Even though it was the last day I was going to be in the office before the birthday, I was completely not yet thinking in birthday mode. So it was really cool that my co-workers were.

Thanks Alice! Mini-me is adorable.

So cute. At first I thought your boss was a pirate! Maybe he secretly wishes he was!

Coolest birthday gift! & I have to say, I love the Fail blog and LOLcats as well. When one of us is having a bad day, the boyfriend and I email lolcats to each other.

You rock! I just had to let you know! I've been a lurker for a few weeks now and decided to post. I've printed your menu planner and absolutely love it- great idea!

Thank you for the FAIL website. My friend recently sent an email that had a few FAIL pics. Now, with the website link, I can get my fix!

lolz at "Mini-me's Maxi-me"! i wonder when i'll get back into knitting... i'm finally gonna be able to do a lot of sewing now that i finally have a manual for my 1981 Kenmore. now things make so much sense!

lots of projects in the works. i'll keep you posted in a non-obsessive way.

p.s.: a little amusement for the day, inspired by the Robot Foiler:
"We now return to Robo-Trumble! {pause} Oh, I'm sorry, that's 'Robot... Rumble.'"

I'm still working through the fail blog but I'm laughing like a maniac. Isabelle said, "stop it mama, I'm eating." I guess my crazy laughing is disturbing her meal.

My husband is addicted to fail-blog. I'm more of a LOL-Cats gal myself, which is weird as I don't like cats and I despise bad grammar...
