There are parts of the Victorian Lady embroidery that I totally love. There are others that I don't totally love. I knew picking floss colors for the dusty purple corduroy

background would be challenging, but I totally misjudged how any of them would really look.
Most of the embroidery in the
Flickr Embroidery pool has well-balanced color choices. But sometimes you'll run across one where they embroidered white (or very light pink) on white fabric for the outline of a face and the eyes, nose, and mouth are just kind of floating weirdly on the piece. I have the opposite problem. In my case, I've created a neon-faced woman with *glowing* lace on her dress (squint and you'll see what I mean). As you can imagine, that isn't what I was going for.
In any event, I was just practicing. You can't actually fail when you're just practicing, right? I've decided she'll be part of some kind of quilt of embroidered bits that I'll use to cover my sewing machine. I've got the next bit planned. I can't wait to show you.
