Luckily, I Was Just Practicing

There are parts of the Victorian Lady embroidery that I totally love.  There are others that I don't totally love.  I knew picking floss colors for the dusty purple corduroy background would be challenging, but I totally misjudged how any of them would really look.

Most of the embroidery in the Flickr Embroidery pool has well-balanced color choices.  But sometimes you'll run across one where they embroidered white (or very light pink) on white fabric for the outline of a face and the eyes, nose, and mouth are just kind of floating weirdly on the piece.  I have the opposite problem.  In my case, I've created a neon-faced woman with *glowing* lace on her dress (squint and you'll see what I mean).  As you can imagine, that isn't what I was going for.

In any event, I was just practicing.  You can't actually fail when you're just practicing, right?  I've decided she'll be part of some kind of quilt of embroidered bits that I'll use to cover my sewing machine.  I've got the next bit planned.  I can't wait to show you.

practice=perfect. What I LOVE is the idea of her as a neon sign "Live Victorian Girls!" Bare ankles are so scandalous! ;)

I am in awe of embroidery. So practice or not, looks good to me. When I squinted, what popped out was her collar and it kind of looked lobster-like. It's like one of those magic eye pictures, but in EmbroiderVision.

I'm liking her.

I think embroidering faces is really hard... and the features are so tiny. Only satin stitch would be really easy to see on the corduroy for such detail.

experiment away.. you never know what might happen next!

I never use those bead stitches, but I should because they look f'ing great. I like the background fabric color with the threads you chose too.

P.S. the headless bunny egg rocks. I was trying to think of what I could put in H's easter basket besides candy. I think an embroidered egg may be the ticket.

Oh man, your post made me laugh so hard. I didn't even notice the neon face until you mentioned it.

Nice neon face... just embrace it ;)
Embroidering faces is hard, I think the less stitches you do, the more must be imagined and the better it looks.
I think it's a neat idea to put this lady where you can see her everyday!
