Flower Loom and Lions

I was one of the lucky ducks that snagged one of Cathy of California's Vintage Flower Loom Kits.  It arrived yesterday and I'm so happy!

First of all, it's way bigger than I thought it would be.  Second of all, the instruction booklet features TWO lion projects that I can make with the loom.  Third of all, Cathy tucked in a straw ribbon flower she made and it's amazing.  My fingers are itching to get going!

Speaking of lions, I uploaded a huge batch of lion photos to my Flickr.  This one is my favorite.  Look at that smile!  He makes me think of Rick James (a la Charlie Murphy and Chappelle) ... "What did the five fingers say to the face?*"

I'll keep adding lion photos as I take them.  And, if I ever pony up for a pro account, I can put them in a set because those sneaky sneaks only let free accounts make 3 sets.

Ever go to Princeton? They have big lions on the campus. Hmm, actually, they are the Princeton Tigers, but I could swear they had lion statues. We used to sit on them and take pictures. Now I'm confused.

You know, I've had one of those flower looms that I got at a thrift store sitting in a drawer forever. Maybe you'll be my inspiration in giving it a try :)

That lion looks like he just made an off handed comment to a female pedestrian only to become sheepishly embarrassed that she wasn't actually pregnant. Whoops! :p

And if you still haven't had enough of lions and you happen to be in New York, there is a fantastic show over at the American Folk Art Museum- Gilded Lions and Jeweled Horses. I thought of you when I was there :-)

Can't wait to see what you make with the loom. I'm off now to re-watch that "Rick James" bit. Thanks, I'll be youtubing all night now.

Funny thing is i got one of these looms when I was about 8 years old and loved it. It has followed me everywhere and at age 40 I still have it and use and still enjoy it. Now it's even funnier to see them making a comeback.

Hahaha, the lion's facial expression is really something. I wonder what the artist had in mind when he made it :-D

Lucky you! I saw the beautiful loom-kits on Etsy. Cathy has unfortunately only shipping within USA so I'm stuck experimenting on a knitting loom. I am looking forward to follow your work on this device :-)
Sunshine: please buy me one for 50cents! Send it to Sweden :-)
Kind regards

I wish that I would have purchased this type of loom when I had the chance. I haven't been able to find it at a reasonable price recently. I do own the 10,00 flowers one and I just love it. I do like that with this one, you have the capability of adding differenty types of layers to your creation.

I will be posting some flowers that I was inspired to make just last night.

A quick question -- are you worried that you could lose some of the pieces that it comes with? (That is what deterred me when it was available.)

Another question --- Other than yarn and Raffia, have you tried other materials?

Olubunmi ... Hi! I'm not worried about loosing pieces because that's not the kind of thing that happens to me. I'm very careful with my stuff. :) I haven't tried it with anything other than yarn or raffia, but I'm sure there are lots of materials that would work just fine. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
