New Winter Hat

I made this cute little hat using the free pattern from Crafty Pants.  It was super quick to make, and I love it.  Jessica wrote great directions with lots of tips and reminders that help you through the process.

I made a couple of adjustments.  Either because I have a huge head or because I'm a tight crocheter (or both), I did not decrease for the band around the head, I left it at 60 stitches.  When it was 48 stitches, it sat perched on my head like a tiny chef's hat. :)  I considered ripping the whole thing out and making the hat part bigger so the 60 stitch band would be a decrease, but I think it looks fine the way it is, so I'm leaving it alone.  I also did the hat band in-the-round instead of back and forth.

I used my favorite reclaimed-from-a-sweater sequins to decorate the hat band.  I think of them as little ice crystals.  It was fun using someone else's pattern to make something.

Oh, I like that one! Most winter hats look really terrible on me, but this is a different shape... I wonder if I could wear it as well as you do? I might just make it and see!

I like it and the photos. They almost look monochromatic with spot color.

That color really suits you, but I doubt it will do you much good in February in Philly!

That is wicked cute. I have a problem with hats - they usually look stupid on me. But like heathers said, with the different shape, it might work. (hmmm.... like I don't have enough projects going on at once! lol)

I have that one on my list too - I love the added sparkles on yours. It really suits the two of you - I hope I can look half as good once I do mine!

Looks great! The sequins really make it happen. You should go ice skating.

Lovely! The color is perfect with your hair and complexion and those sequins are awesome.

And I'll be coming back to that blanket stitch tutorial. A quilter in my life uses that for a kind of quilt/applique mix and had been offering to show me how to do it (she uses some kind of fuseable backing on the cotton to give it the kind of sturdiness felt has.) This looks *exactly* like her technique.

I love your hat, and the sequins make it even prettier.

I have definitely added this to my list of must crochet.

YESSS! Thank you for posting this stuff. You're a natural teacher. I always forget how to do blanket stitch stuff. Now I have many helpful tutorials! I also like the hat. Thanks for passing it on and thanks craftypants.

I love winter hats. I wish I could go outside today just so I could wear one, but my back is out so I need to lay low.

Ah, but it's the season...plenty of opportunities!
