Mailing Lists Are A Good Thing

To say I was skeptical when I was contacted by the marketing department of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia about being added to their marketing mailing list is an understatement.  I protect my private space.  Our diligence pays off: we get almost no  sales calls or junk mail.  After asking some questions about what being on Martha's marketing list meant, I decided to go ahead and sign up (mostly because the person emailing me sent a personalized email and answered all of my questions thoughtfully).

Last week I got an email press release talking about their craft line.  Several craft bloggers posted their finds, and I was totally tempted to jump in the car and check it out.  I restrained myself because I just can't spend any money right now, but it was killing me not to be able to touch any of the awesome things I was seeing.

Today I got a box.  From Martha.  I'm freaking out!  I got the CUTEST binder filled with samples and marketing information.  Even though it's just the vehicle for the marketing info, the D-ring binder (with a hole-punched quad paper note book enclosed) is my FAVORITE part of the whole thing.  I've been struggling with a system to keep all the details for my projects, and this binder will be the perfect solution.

There are a billion and one adorable samples and photos in this binder.  Do you see this paper tag?!  How perfect will it be to label my handbags?!  The print on the back totally matches the graphics on my blog (I hope I can afford them!).  In fact, I'm totally digging the aesthetic of the whole line ... birds, leaves, swirls, branches, graphic patterns.  I even love the packaging ... and I'm a total sucker for packaging.

What lesson have I learned?  Sometimes it's a good thing to be on a mailing list.

I totally don't know why I was picked for the mailing list. I assume it was just my craft blog. Well, I *know* it was my craft blog because the box was addressed to "Alice Craft Blog."

I kinda feel like a shill, and I know that I'm probably inducing more jealousy than I want to, but I really do like the things I'm seeing ... plus, I *do* want people to be a little jealous. It's about all the kicks I'm getting right now. How sad is that?

i'm way jealous.

i saw some of her craft line at michael's last week and had to pry myself away thanks to a wailing baby, but i cant wait to head back sans baby. the notebook seems super useful as so many projects are swimming around in my head.

No, no, no, you got the syntax all wrong. It should have been: What have I learned about mailing lists? Sometimes, it's a good thing. The signature Martha ending. Or oh, maybe you were just going for Martha-esque.

I love Sonya's syntax. Does that sound wrong?

Can you sign me up too?

You are the 4th person I read tonight that mentioned Martha Stewart and her new crafting line. To tell the truth, I really can't stand the woman. She always sounds so condencending. But her magazine and her items she sells with her name attached are always pretty awesome. She hires some pretty amazing people.

Geez! It was THAT Martha you wanted to give my correct name too? Thanks! I bet they picked you just because you aren't on a bunch of lists.

And seeing your pictures right now I thought oooh let's see what else she has. But I am to be denied. The site is down for scheduled maintenance.

Sucks all around FOR ME.

True confession: I used to work for a big corporation in the "let's sell names as a mailing list" department. Evil. I know. Now you know. And I did quit. I'm not THAT evil.

Love when good things happen to nice people. What fun to get something like that in the mail.
