WIP - Dustpan Alley Bags

* * * * * *
UPDATE:  The Starling Handbag crochet pattern for the purses above is now available on the free downloads page.  Yay!
* * * * * *

I've finished embellishing the birdcage and flower handbags that I'm making.  Earlier this week, I finished embellishing the three teal bags.  Six of the nine "handmade by futuregirl" labels are done.  Next I need to cut, sew, and install the linings.

I've been working on the bags assembly line style: cut 8 flowers, sew flower details, attach stems, etc.  It's so much fun for me.  If I could make a living working on a factory assembly line, I would.  I actually did work on an assembly line for a while in college making gas filters on the graveyard shift.  It was very satisfying work.  It just doesn't pay diddly squat.

When I made my first small flower handbag,  I ad libbed the stems.  Afterwards, I made a chart of exactly how they looked.  Thank goodness I did!  It would have taken so much longer to do all the stems without it.  Tonight I added the chart of the three flower cluster I used on the medium and large handbag.

Oh my goodness! I'm a sucker for birds on anything. Did you crochet all of those bags on top of all the hand work? I'm amazed at your productivity!

Working assembly line style is a good idea. I once worked on a project where they didn't take my suggestion to work that way. It was absolute chaos!

I think I might pass out, I'm that excited.

(But I'm trying to use fewer exclamation points.)

I want one of each for myself.

Seriously, before you came along I really was a strictly messenger bag person. Now I find myself dreaming of carrying cute hand bags.

So glad you're feeling better! The bags look wonderful and you're right, the wonder knitter produces the perfect strap on your wristlets. You've made me want to give the spool knitting a try!

I really enjoy seeing the photos of all of your bags. I love the bird in their pretty cages.

There is something satisfying about doing things assembly line fashion. That was making pins that way last week, and afterward, I looked around and realized that I'd made a bunch of stuff!!!

I realize that this post is a year late, but i've just discovered your blog! I was making a slouchy puff crochet hat and looked at the one you did. And then I discovered your AWESOME CROCHET BAGS! I tried to look you up on etsy, but someone else has the futuregirl username. Do you sell your bags? I can't make anything worth a swap hahaha..I'm not that good. Maybe you can tell me how you increase the bottom of the bag into a rectangle? I could try to make my own...do you use acrylic or cotton yarn? I've never used the cotton, but im willing to try.
I'm going to attempt your no seam crochet during the holidays. I realize you might not see this, so I'll email it to you. Happy Holidays!
