Giveaway Number Three

I'm enjoying all the great comments you are all leaving on my giveaways.  You're the best!

Giveaway Number Three is a Martha Stewart Crafts Frosty Village Decoration Kit.

The kit is provided courtesy of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (thanks, Agnes!)*.  They are going to mail this awesome kit (that includes glitter!!) directly to the winner for me.

Leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite thing about winter** to enter the drawing.  Be sure I can contact you via your comment.  If your Blogger profile is hidden, or you don't provide your email address, or, at the very least, a link to your website, then you are ineligible.  How horrible would that be?!

You must leave your comment by November 24th at midnight Eastern Time (that's the midnight between the 23rd and the 24th).  To find out what time that is where you live, choose your time zone next to the heading "Select place to convert to" on this page at The World Clock.

I will announce the winner on November 24th. :) Good luck!

* Just so you know, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is not compensating me in any way for this post.  They are just providing the kit.

** I figured some of you might be bored of leaving "enter me" comments, so I wanted to give you something fun to say. :)

Well, I'm in Southern California, and it was in the 90s all last week, so... winter's definitely not about the cooler weather for me! I think I just like all the lights, the holiday spirit and cheer that people seem to don right about now. Charitable donations rise, and it's all about goodwill and giving. Love it.

Oh my gosh I wish we could get Martha here! :) That is the cutest thing I've ever seen.

It's actually the middle of summer when it's Christmas here, but I would love to experience a Winter Christmas, with snow! Our Winter is in the middle of the year and I love the cold weather, drinking hot drinks and hanging out while there is a thunderstorm reading a good book and eating hot soup.

I think a Winter Christmas would be so cozy *sigh* Ours involves usually 100 degree heat, swimming, seafood, the beach, BBQs, alcohol, etc. So not so bad :P

My favorite thing about Winter are the snow Days. Growing up in Texas we didn't get much snow. On the rare occasions we did, we didn't have to go to school. There was nothing like a free day off of school. A day when we'd try desperately to scrape up enough snow for a snow man, chase your buddies down the block with snow balls and dare them to stick their tongues to the light posts. It was an enormous treat for us.

Winter for me was always magical growing up in Finland with the snow and wintery forests and the short days and everything. Then I got older and winter became my least favourite season, because at the start of winter 12 years ago both one of my friends died (she was just 19)and my beloved grandfather died unexpectedly.

I always dreaded the oncoming of winter because of that. The long winternights were just too dark, there was too little snow (especially after we moved to Denmark)and even Christmas became a little tainted to me by all the sadness and other sad things that also happened to happen during the wintertime.

This all changed a few years ago. First we found out that I was pregnant in december 5 years ago. Then last year we got a phonecall that we had a child waiting for us in South Africa. This year, a few days before the anniversary of my grandfathers death we have again gotten a phonecall (this one even more surprising, as we weren't even applying for something like this) that we have another child waiting for us!

Now the beginning of winter is the most joyous thing in the world for me! No more tears, no more winter depression, no more just trudging through the long dark nordic winter. Now we have so much to celebrate even though it is dark and snowless. The magic of my childhood winters has returned, and it feels as if my grandfather had something to do with it.

I don't care if we don't have any snow, that we just this eternal danish autumn. I know that I will have so many happy wonderful winters together with my family, with all my wonderful children, and no matter what we will be happy together and just enjoy this season and remember everything good that we associate with it.

So to me, winter equals my children, and just love!

i love the way the lights glow in the snow at night. the halos, the reflections, the illuminated flakes that are slowly falling. i also like the silence of a winter night, where it is so quiet that all you can hear is snow settling on snow. we don't get a whole lot of that in virginia, but i have fond snow memories from a childhood spent in northern pennsylvania.

My favourite thing about winter is a winter day like this:

You wake up. The sun is shining from a clear blue sky, making the white snow look like someone has poured glitter all over it. You put on warm clothes (at last an opportunity to wear all those woolly clothes you’ve knitted or crocheted), and find the old cross country skis that’s been hidden away in the garage for a long time. You try your best to do some cross country skiing. Stumbling a bit, falling a bit, until you find the perfect heap of snow after about a 100 meters (no reason to overdo it). There you dig a little hole where you can sit (bring Butt cushions) with the face towards the sun. Since you’ve brought a friend, you sit there chatting, drinking hot chocolate, eating oranges and think that just now you’ve entered winter wonderland, and nothing can be more beautiful. After some hours in the sun, you stumble back on those cross country skis that are not at all cooperative, but make you look a bit like Bambi on the ice, while touching your sore and bright read nose that got burned in the sun (probably what happened to Rudolf, the red nosed reindeer). You come home filled with a shockingly large dose of fresh air. You start to doze off, and soon you sleep like a baby while dreaming lovely winter-wonderland-dreams.

My most favorite thing about Winter....family tradition.
my family has a winter tradition that i've always adored. My mother and family gets together and we all prepare and cook eggrolls (and some vegetarian eggrolls too!) we wash vegetables and make tempura veggies. it's delightful. We enjoy one another while cooking, and then we chow down on some homemade food.

Ask around you guys during the winter. You will find so many delightful stories from different people about their traditions. It really is the best thing about winter. The cold seems to bring people together most of all.

Hope everyone has a wonderful season!

My favourite thing about winter is watching snow fall. I used to love lighting the coal fire, turning out the lights, opening the curtains and watching the snow fall.

We moved house a few years ago though and don't have a coal fire now... but we have a MUCH better view over fields so I watch the snow fall while warming my feet on the radiator.

I miss the fire, but the fact I can enjoy the view all year round makes up for it.

Favorite thing about winter: I live in sunny California, and it never gets too cold, or too wet here, for too long. As I recall, you lived in SF, so you know what I'm talking about! My favorite thing is, after it rains, when the clouds are still rolling out, the sun comes out and the brights look so bright against the darkness of the clouds...the greens and yellows of the trees and hillsides cast in sideways light. I love EVERYTHING about winter. I grew up in Canada and now live in California so I love it when the air starts to get cool and crisp and I can start wearing sweaters and curling up by the fire.

My favorite thing is about winter is that both of my boys play travel hockey. As much as I hate the cold of winter, I LOVE watching my boys play such an awesome sport with such dedication and heart.

My favorite part about winter is building a fire and actually enjoying the warmth it puts out (hey, in S. CA we don't get much cold weather!).

My favorite thing about winter is the quiet peacefulness of a snowfall. When it first starts to snow, everything is so silent, even cars stop driving by for a while. Going out to shovel when it's all sparkly and new is actually meditative and relaxing.

The best part about winter is waking up on a morning after it has snowed all night and looking outside the window at your own yard turned into a snowglobe ...a life-sized MS frosty village!

Building snowmen and dotting the yard with snow angels...and then coming in for hot chocolate with marshmellows!

There's that time, right as you are waking up after a snow during the night. Your eyes are still partly closed, you're snuggled under the blankets and the light is coming in through your bedroom window. You stretch, smile, and grab your blankets close to yourself and lean over and LOOK out the window. THAT moment when the light reflecting off the snow and day meets and you get a feeling of fresh, bright and new. :)

I look forward to the clean, cold days of January, a log on the fire, a good book, a cup of coffee and cuddled in a quilt. It's my favorite time of year.

Winter... I love being warm inside when it's all cold and frosty outside. And hot chocolate. And scarves. And seeing your breath.

Ok...My favorite thing about winter would be the scents I associate with it. Clove, pine, eggnog, berries and warmth. I also love that in the winter, no one asks me how come I never go sleeveless. Hey, it's the 124th comment I figure I can say anything and no one will see it...so...Murder Death Kill! Just getting in the decapitated bunny egg mode. :) Congrats on your projects being selected and Happy Thanksgiving!

I love the scenery when snow is covering everything and there are no footsteps right after a storm. And ice storms are gorgeous on trees too! (it's all gorgeous as long as you don't have to drive or go out and get cold)

I love watching the snow from inside.

My favorite thing about winter is using the snow thrower while my husband has to get the kids dressed in their snowsuits, undressed to go potty because he didn't make them do that before their first dressing, dress them in snow gear a second time and then finally get the kids outside. The 20 minutes of silence is something I cherish!
