Clover Wonder Knitter

I've been super-sick for the last week (and I'm not quite 100% yet) so on my first day back to work, I treated myself to a trip to AC Moore on my lunch break.

I've been searching for a wristlet strap solution. Hilde's finger knitting got me thinking ... what about those cute doll shaped spool knitters? I was just about to pick one of them up when I saw Clover's Wonder Knitter™:

The package made it sound super easy, it comes with two different sized knitting heads, AND it's made with glitter plastic. I can't pass up something made of glitter plastic. After I bought it, I found Wayne's wonderful webpage. He's an engineer who's tested every Knitting Nancy he could find. He says *this* knitter is the best. Yay!

It took me about 1 minute to figure it out. I totally love it. I think the cord is going to work perfectly for wristlet straps. I have a couple experiments I want to do, too. I'm very excited about this.

I had my first real-world crafty networking moment today. The nice, young cashier who was ringing me up at AC Moore asked what I was making (I was getting lots of yarn, too) . I told her I make handbags. I showed mine to her (I haven't shown it to you guys yet because of my *cough* cold). Long-story-short, she asked about it, and I ended up scribbling my url on a 3 x 5 card. Now I *need* some blog-cards and/or some moo cards.

I also just found out that March is National Craft Month. How cool is that!? I'm going to celebrate with a tablespoon of codeine cough syrup.

p.s. When I was looking for a link to the doll painted spool knitters, I ran across Craftlog's post about spool knitters from June 2005 - she found Wayne's This and That, too. :) That guy is way cool. Too bad he took his email address down, I'd love to thank him.

Oh, that is very cool. I got my daughter a knitting mushroom from Haba for Christmas. She can't use it yet (a little too much fine motor for this 4 year old), and she yells at me when I try to use it. Guess I'll have to get one of my own.

Yay I can comment again!!

Hope you're back to 100% soon.

Spool knitters always seem familiar to me. I think I must have used one when I was little.

And very cool, your first real world crafty networking moment. Wow that's a mouthful!

It seems like we’ve been thinking some of the same thoughts :-) I made finger knitted cords that I felted, and then used them as straps for a bag (it's not on my blog yet). I've tried it out for a couple of weeks now, because I wondered if they would stretch or keep their size. It's working perfectly. Finger knitting/ using a knitting doll seems to work really well sometimes. I'm sure it will look good on your
wristlets :-)

Ah, a futuristic 'Strickliesl' I remember I had one in primary school (the traditional doll shaped one), and there was a bit of a craze and we brought them into school and 'knit' at break time in the play ground! then marbles took over again.

Oh yeah. Moo cards are cool. And I'm jealous of glittery plastic stuff that you have and I don't! (grin)

We're just getting over sick here. I hope it means that Spring is on us. The kid manuals always seem to say 'this illness' and 'that illness' strike in late winter. Late winter it is, come on early spring.
I've yet to see a watchamacallit that matches the red and white aesthetic of my childhood knitting mushroom. I'm floored to find out they are called "knitting Nancy's." I'm kind of wondering if the name is a slight as in "knitting with two sticks is cool and macho" and "you are a nancy if you knit with that phallic thing?"
I know that's not true and I should probably read the whole Wayne webpage.
I'm slow that way. I still can't figure out what 'moo cards' really are and how they would fit into my life. But I have figured out more of the flickr thing. Imagine you can see all the pix your contacts have posted... took me a while to catch on to that!
I need to get out and talk to another adult, I think. ; )

I bought this little knitter thing a couple of weeks ago and love it. It makes much more even i-cord than I can make with double points, and faster, too.

I had one as a kid (still have it) but it doesn't have that neat turning feature and it isn't glittery.

oldround -- look at the different vendors listed on your flickr page -- moo is the one on top (I think). moocards are very small, thick cards, long and thin, with photos and text on them. I think they're sort of a cross between a business card and a tag or label. Great for attaching to crafts that you sell. A bit pricey, though.

I have no need for such a device but now I want one because it's so cool!

You can get pretty inexpensive decent quality business cards from Vista Print on-line. That's where we got ours.

I bet if you used wool yarn and felted it, you'd get a pretty sturdy wristlet cord too!

... I just read some of your comments and someone already suggested this... great minds think alike.

I hope you get to feeling better before you start to like the taste of the cough syrup.

Thanks for your pleasant commentary. I connect to you.
Is fantastic. I was watching in that direction and seems that there are pretty and useful things. That use has the one of the photo?
Until the next day. Greetings

What a great idea. My kids have those and are always begging to knit things on them. I will have to let them knit up some felted snakes. That is too fabulous!! They love it when their crafting has purpose.

No sickness here and hope to keep it that way (had one year where it went from May until December with different folks in the house, don't ever want to do that again). Have bought that same knitting spool and yet to use (big plans that didn't happen). Am going to have to give it a try this weekend. Hope you feel 100% soon.

This post brings back so many lovely childhood memories!!! I remember my "knitting nancy" that I spent hours on to make barbie and doll scarfs, boas and belts (and the odd snake if my brother got a hold of it!!) Love it!! And your bags are to die for!

Feel better soon, futuregirl! Wow, I haven't seen a Knitting Nancy in years, who knew they would go all hi-tech!

hello, alice! It's been nice to drop by and read your lovely style of writing and see what you have been up to! Love the wristlet, and the new bag. Isn't it great when ideas just seem to come to you? I always find they work out the best, like they come more naturally or something.
Hope your sickness buggers off and leaves you alone very soon!
It must be fun using a knitting nancy.. I'd feel like a kid again using one of those things (especially if it was sparkly!!), and that can only be a good thing! ;)

My boys love making little men with ours.
You might even want to use two strands at the same time to make it extra strong.

I hope you start feeling better. Perhaps the glitter plastic will help (glitter always helps me). That is one cool crafting gadget, I just might have to look for one.

Hooray for the spool knitter! I have one of those myself, the glitter is a nice touch isn't it? I also have a larger wooden one when I am feeling more Waldorf.

Here's a good place to get business cards cheap. As a matter of fact, you can get 250 matte cards for FREE. They do a good job. I've used them myself:

Hmmm, I wonder if the Clover wonder Knitter will work with paracord? Haha, I have to laugh, because if I try using this and it works, I won't be able to tell any of the folks I know, it wouldn't be 'cool', even though it'd be to make something for attaching to a knife or flashlight. If they made one in camoflauge, it might go over, lol.
