Blocking Again

I'd hoped that once I blocked this sweater, it would stay that way.  But after I washed it the first time, I just laid it out on a towel and let it dry.  That didn't work.

The Knit Picks Comfy Fingering yarn (75% Pima Cotton, 25% Acrylic) I made this with is super light and springy.  The lace scrunches up when it's washed.  I'm going to have to block this sweater every time I wash it to keep the lace open.

It is one of the flaws of cotton, so I often try for at least a wool cotton blend. But living in the Boston area (and always being cold) means I can wear wool year round.

Seanna Lea ... Definitely for lace next time I'll use something that has drape or memory. Though maybe the other commenter's steam block suggestions might work.

I read once that steam blocking was more permanent, did you try that?

Theresa ... Nope. That might be the answer.

I can't stand blocking and only do it when I absolutely have to, which isn't often because I got a steamer a few years ago as a gift. It may seem counter-intuitive but try hanging it on a hanger or laying it out on a towel when its it dry and steaming the lace back open. I've used steam with more success than blocking. Good luck!

CitricSugar ... So, you steam it after it's dry and it opens back up? Do you have to do anything special during the post-steam drying?

Couldn't be doing with that, it would end up at the back of the drawer.

And this is what make you one of my biggest heros!!! The willingness to block this garment over and over and over.......

But.... it is gorgeous! AND it is your color! And you look amazing in it - so it is worth the extra effort isn't it!!.

pam ... Yes, that definitely makes it worth it. Luckily I can wear it a couple times before I feel the need to wash it again since I wear a shirt under it. :)
