Awaiting Finger Tubes

These are man-sized gloves on my woman-sized hands.  I've gotten as far as I can with the yarn I have left.

Here's the left glove.  To get the ribbing the right tightness around the wrist and the hand big enough, I had to do some increases the first couple of rows.  I thought ribbing naturally tightened things up.  Maybe it does, but not enough in this case.

Here's the right glove.  Look at that 1x1 ribbing.  Look at that stockinette.  So far, so good.

Finger tubes that go to the first knuckle ... that's the next challenge.    See the tiny piles of yarn at the top?  That's all I have left.  Luckily, these are made from so many different colors that I'm sure I can find something that will match or coordinate perfectly.

Wow, Alice, you are the knitting queen! Nicely done!! That is the reason I want to pick up knitting - it seems so much easier to make something like those knitting instead of crochet. Someday I'll get to it - for now I'll just be wowed by you. :D

nancymoo ... Knitting is better for things that need to hug the bit they are wrapped around as it moves and is shaped weird. For crocheted stuff, you have to be a little more sculptural to have a good fit. And, for hands, I just think knitting is probably best. Plus, I want to practice!

I'm so excited to see you knitting! =D I only started knitting myself a few years ago, though I've been crocheting for over ten years. But as for the ribbing, have you been using the same size needle for the entire glove? A lot of times if you want the ribbing to be tighter, people will use smaller needles for it and switch to a bigger size for the rest of the piece. Just a thought. ^^ And they look great so far! I've done a lot of knitting on double-pointed needles, but I haven't tried fingerless gloves yet. You've inspired me to give it a go. =)

Michelle ... I didn't know the "smaller needle" trick. Although I don't have smaller needles yet. :) I'll have to get some to test that out! :)

WOW! I've been knitting a while, but I've never got that far! A couple of cardigans, sure! But the thought of doing part fingers just scares me!

Well done!

Melanie Wood ... I'm freaking out about having to attach arms to stuff, which is why I haven't done a cardigan yet. At least finger tubes are small when I have to redo them a million times. ;)

Did you knit the ribbing with smaller needles than the ones you used to knit the hands? That's the trick to ribbing, otherwise it doesn't quite work as well. At any rate, awesome job! I know some new knitters who took forever to start making garments, good on ya for jumping right in! You're a natural :]

I like it.
I have a couple of pairs of store bought knitted gloves at home...and even a pair of mitten gloves for my daughter that we bought while shivering in Cappedocia. But did you ever notice that knitted gloves don't seem to do much good when you're cold? Our hands and fingers still get so frozenly numb...or perhaps it's because we're from a sunny-all-year-long island that the cold (when we visit cold countries) affects us that way. (I love the cold weather btw...it's just that we get too 'lazy' to take our hands out from our pockets to take pictures...hehe)

Michelle B ... These will be warm because they are wool. I suspect your chills are partly because of where you live year-round, because gloves totally warm me up in the winter even when they aren't wool.
