Mending Pile - Scarf Enshortening

Andrew loves this scarf.  It's too long, but he wears it anyway, which is a testament to just how much he loves it.  For a long time (omg, it's been *years*) I've been saying, "I can make it shorter."  But now that I can knit, I thought I'd actually tackle this project.

It was super easy to unravel the woven-in ends, undo the knot between colors, and take out a row to shorten the end.

Ironically, I used a crochet hook to bind off the top edge.  Guess I could have done this a while ago with out all the fancy knitting knowledge.

Once I bound off the top, I just had to weave in the end.  Cake!

What a neat scarf edge!

I took off about 6 inches on each end and have these two awesome balls of yarn left over.  I think I might try to make some fingerless gloves to match the scarf.

I'm also a fan of the scarf. How lovely, too, that he will have a nice sized scarf AND a pair of fingerless mitts to match.

wanted to let you know...thanks for the post about trying to knit a scarf that doesn't curl at the ends...i have made a hat with the "double knit" idea of knit slip-as-if-to-perl knit and i love that it is so easy...makes a "bag-hat" and i have been having fun with that - i plan to make a felted purse that way too and i will post pictures of the hat and the purse when i finish. Thanks Alice!!!

I love the colors of that scarf! Its manly enough without being boring! I always have that problem when trying to make something for my husband. I still want to venture into the knitting world. I'll get there eventually... you're a great inspiration! :D

nancymoo ... I love it, too. I was surprised that he liked it, but it's because it matches so many things. Ha!
