Say, "Sleeeeve"

In the War between Blogging and Crafting, Crafting has been kicking Blogging's ass.

Which is why we have a sleeve ...
and a tiny, no-info post.

SLEEVE!

Maybe you should send Blogging some reinforcements so you can get some details about the sleeve.  Oh, isn't it lovely?!

That is looking awesome. I'm not a fan of wearing crocheted items (besides hat, scarf, gloves). But that sweater looks great. I love the stitch you have. Good job.
2/18/2010 12:14 PM

futuregirl replied ...
Anna ... I hear you. Crochet items aren't usually stylish or comfy. I'll be discussing some of those issues eventually. And learning to knit ... ;)
2/18/2010 8:43 PM

Wow! This sweater is going to be gorgeous. Forgive me, but I just have to say that it's looking store-bought not homemade - a fantastic look! Oh so lovely. I can also picture this made in a subtle cream yarn.
2/18/2010 12:15 PM

futuregirl replied ...
Lemon Tree Tami ... I think a lighter color yarn would be awesome! Then you could layer it over other colors to create different looks. My purple yarn looks horrible over that red, but it's the only t-shirt I have that works for photos. :) I think it's awesome that it looks store bought!

Sonya ... Thank you! I'm learning a lot about garment construction, for sure. I think knitting would be a lot easier because it's stretchy and you don't have to plan everything out so much as far as fit is concerned.

2/18/2010 4:25 PM

Chase l Oh The Cuteness! ... I've been working very hard to make it fitted. Crochet isn't usually very stretchy, so there are some strategic increases and decreases in there. :)

as it should. Blogging will always be here, sometimes crafting can't wait. Or, in my case, has waited way too long and is mad at blog.

urban crafting ... Ha! Well, when I posted this, I thought, "Hey. I have time for a tiny post." not thinking that even tiny posts get comments. And, in this case, an avalanche of comments. A veritable snopocolypse of comments, one might say. So, sorry it took me so long to say, "Thanks!"

Wow that looks great! And ummmm really really crazy advanced. Makes my crochet skills quake in their boots. :)

And Blogging is getting it's ass kicked here too. Well so is crafting too actually. Lack of sleep kicks creativity's butt every time here. Sigh.

On a totally different subject. I AM A ROBOT. Hee hee! It's just that I swear almost every single time I try to comment I get the robot foiler wrong. It happens so frequently that I am shocked. No, seriously, it makes me stop in my tracks when I do get it right the first time.

I do adore your sweater. It's also wonderful to see the evolution it's gone through to look so beautiful. It makes me wonder if I should take up crochet again but I never got any further than undoing an hours work because it looked horrible. Thanks for being such an inspiration.
2/19/2010 4:30 AM

futuregirl replied ...
Caroline ... Oh, believe me, I've undone miles of crochet, too. I guess it all depends on if you like crocheting. I'm a process crafter, so even if I have to undo it, I still have fun. :) Of course, it always helps to have a good pattern. Maybe someday I'll get this finished and written up.

You really seem to make it work, Alice. Well done.
You know, although I have made some rather nice crocheted items in the past and, as a knitter, don't condemn crocheting principally, I doubt crocheting is by nature the technique to produce a beautiful garment.
It works really well for bags and interior goods, for slippers, too, also for mufflers and scarves, but in my opinion that's about it.
Rather complex garments easily look too plump and not refined. Or like trying too hard to battle the flaws of crocheting... often, when you think it kind of works there are actually stitches being used that imitate the look of knitting. And then of course it would be obvious to actually knit the piece in the first place.
I love crocheted garments that embrace the beauty of obviously crocheted stitches and look homogenous and relaxed at the same time - like your pretty little sweater, Alice!

2/19/2010 8:53 PM

futuregirl replied ...
Alex ... You make some very good points! I definitely want to discuss what I've learned in another post. Now that I've gotten this far, I realize why most crochet garments are so boxy ... a fitted crochet pattern must be made exactly for you because it doesn't stretch like knitting. There isn't a lot of forgiveness. Thank you for your eloquent and sweet comment, sister-scarlet.
3/7/2010 5:03 AM

That is a lovely sleeve. The rest of it is nice too! I feel the same way lately. I'd prefer to spend a lot more time doing than writing about doing.
