2010 - Let's See What Happens

Random thoughts about how I want to spend my crafty time in 2010.

WRITING

Saturdays (peepshow) will be posts of projects you completed using my patterns.  Sundays (link fest) will be posts highlighting indie crafters.  The rest of the week, I want to fill with updates on my own projects.  In addition to this craft blog, I'm slated to write an article on the First and Third Tuesday of every month over on Make & Meaning.

PROJECTS

- more tutorials
- more videos (and add videos to old tutorials)
- Starling Handbag crochet-along videos
- Starling Handbag crochet charts
- finish both the crochet sweater designs I started
- design crochet things with interesting stitches (not just single crochet)
- make some art
- secret things that I want to surprise you with and hopefully have the time to do
- more embroidery!
- make/mod some clothes

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Being a contributor to Make & Meaning is a part of this one.  Getting together with my crafty friends IRL is another part.  Also, the posts on Saturday and Sunday are a way to connect with the crafty community.

I always day dream about organizing a craft get-together in a big space where people can come an go as they please.  I've been walking around San Francisco at night seeing all these HUGE offices and vacant stores thinking, "There could be a group of us crafting in there right now."  For all I know, there is already a organized crafty night that I am just not aware of.  I need to do some investigating. (oh!  lookie here)

I'd also like to teach someone to crochet this year.  How do I find that person?

GROW MY BLOG

I'd like to start down the path of generating some DIY income this year.

IN CONCLUSION

I don't really have a conclusion, but ever since I learned to write paragraphs in 4th grade, I've felt compelled to have an intro, a body, and a conclusion for everything I write.  So ... here you go.

I love your ideas...as for finding someone(s?) to teach, if you could find a nearby homeschool group, there are often kids/moms that want to learn these types of needlesports. In my area over the last few years, I have taught 6 or so young girls to knit and a couple to crochet and quilt.

Can't wait to see what embroidery you explore, also.

BTW, I actually made a Starling Pod. That would be a Starling Handbag without the handles. As I was making the pattern I just loved how my crochet hooks and scissors fit into it so cozily and kept them from rattling around in my basket while I worked. I folded down the rim - it is so organizationally and tactile-y appealing.

I'd LOVE to see FutureGirl video tutes and make-alongs!!

As for your big craft-athon event thingy (like how I used the technical term?) why not think about having a sponsor... Something like Elmer's Glue... They can pay to hire the venue and get to put their products/ads all over. It may not be a great idea, but it was the first thing that I thought of.

Also, when you write for other places will you be so kind as to put up a little post/note to let us loyal followers where else to find you? (People like me who have you in their "Top Sites" and forget to look much farther unless prompted/shoved outside their own little bubbles ;) )

As always, much crafty love!

futuregirl sing-alongs???? wait, that was "make-alongs" \:

i could volunteer to be your crochet student, but i live on the other side of the country...but, i did learn how to knit "continental" style by video from http://www.knittinghelp.com/ she has all kinds of hints and videos for both continental and "english" knitting...i guess if i can figure it out by video, i think i could be your student (j/k).

i look forward to continuing to follow your blog. thanks for everything you have done.

Peace!

Find your LYS (local yarn store) that offers classes and see if they need a crochet teacher. You might find a great community at an independent shop!

Well I still need you to teach me how to crochet that hat I mentioned. :)

And I'm still hoping for a craft day at my house though it isn't a big space at all. I was going to ask Alan about this weekend or next but I keep forgetting. And plus, it's been raining and I don't think many people want to be out and about then.

And I was going to say the library. We've seen a group of crocheters and knitters at our local library that meet once a month.

Oh and you can teach my sister to crochet. I tried. But I find I have no patience when I'm trying to explain things to family. I don't know why that is.

Alice- You are such an inspiration! I love how you have reflected on the past and are planning for the future. I followed your blog throughout 2009. I loved your Starling Bag (for which I owe you a photo of mine!) and your 2009 Challenge. The Challenge helped me manage my stash. I am enjoying your articles on Make and Meaning too.

In 2010 I am hoping for a pattern or tutorial for your clutch bag (wristlet??). In particular I am keen to learn how to add a lining with a zip at the top of a crocheted bag. I followed your lining instructions for the Starling Bay which was fab.

Glad to hear you are planning more embroidery. I have just started doing some and love it.

Vicki K has a great idea. I have been running a Sewing Club at school since October (I am a primary teacher). I have nine students including 3 boys (!) and they all love it! They would love to learn how to crochet. So maybe you can combine your crochet teaching with your community involvement!

Look forward to the en mass crafting session.

Keep up the fab work!
