Frustration

I think part of the reason I'm jonesin for new craft supplies is that I've spent a couple weeks of crochet time working on a new purse design and it's going  BADLY.

My sketches are so so so cute, but I'm having trouble getting the cuteness to manifest in the physical-crochet world.  The lines aren't exactly right, the seams are bugging me, and I'm using left over yarn bits and the colors aren't inspiring me at all.

I'm starting to suspect that what I want isn't possible in crochet ... but I'm not ready to give up yet!  Maybe I should take a break and work on something cute and exciting for a while and come back to it.

Yes! Take a break! Because I refuse to believe that this is a problem you cannot solve; you just cannot solve it right this second.

Don't worry, you can't judge it by now until you really got it completed. I faced the same process before for some of my creations and they turned out nice and pretty. Just don't give up, I trust your talent and ability :)

Its a good idea to take a break if you are frustrated. When I get really stuck in a project I have to put it away for a while so I don't frog the whole thing! If you set it aside and work on something else, when you come back to it later you'll have a fresh perspective. Besides, you're like a bag-designing goddess, so I'm sure your inspiration will come!

I agree with everyone. I've had this difficulty and frustration in bringing certain designs from the drawing (and my head) into the reality of fabric. I believe your knowledge of yarn and experience of crocheting is informing your design- which means that it is possible to get the result you want, but might take more time to get it right. And a break to refresh yourself.

Yes just take a break. It happens with all of us. You will be surprised to see how things will get easy when you come back!

Hi Alice
I think the reason you are jonesin (nice word!) for new craft supplies is because it is forbidden fruit. You want it just because you can't have it! And because you are frustrated with your project it makes the jonesin worse. If it is any consolation I can tell you that I am working on a crochet project that frustrates me at the moment - and I work with brand new yarn! I support the other commentors: take a break from this project and start a new one, with existing supplies. It will cheer you up. Promise.

I like the colors you're using in the picture, but if you're unhappy with it now, you probably won't be any happier when it's done. I'm with the others - take a break, work on something else and see if you like it better later/have a different idea?

I'm sorry that you are having difficulties with this project. I am often disappointed that my designs do not come out the way I thought they would. However, the upside is that it is all good experience and I would encourage you to have a break from this project and don't let it discourage you from designing your own. I never use patterns except for inspiration - I can't get into the mindset of blindly following someone else's pattern. You are a kindred spirit - keep it up.

June Ryan ... Thank you for the sweet comment. I've taken a huge step back from this project, but I still have all my sketches and notes. I know there will be a right time to pick it back up. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
