Crochet Pattern - Update 6

Here's the aftermath of me taking a million and one photos and several videos for a foundation single crochet (fsc) tutorial supplement.  It's to demonstrate how to make a fsc bridge in the middle of a crocheted piece.  It's how I do my handbag handles.

This tutorial is the last big item that needs to happen before I post the first beta version of the pattern.  Starting and reconnecting a series of fsc stitches is a tricky bit of crochet that desperately begs an explanation.

I've got 35 photos to edit and all the text to write ... although the text kinda writes itself.  It doesn't take articulate genius to come up with "yarn over" or "pull through two loops."  ;)  The last couple of time I posted a tutorial, I've had someone either email or comment letting me know that I they thought I'd gone overboard with the number of photos.  It's such a crack up to be reprimanded for over-explaining.

Let's just say this, I don't think it's possible to go overboard with the number of photos when posting a tutorial.  Sure, there are more photos than an advanced crocheter needs, but not everyone is an advanced crocheter.  I try to make sure that you just have to have a basic grasp of chains, single crochet, etc so that even newbie crocheters can follow my tutorials.

I also recorded a video demonstration of the fsc bridge.  I had to record it a couple of times because I was finding it impossible to say foundation single crochet without mucking up the words.  It's so weird to watch the videos after I make them.  It's like listening to the fake radio shows I recorded on cassette when I was a youngster ... my voice sounds weird to me, I use phrases that I swear I don't use in real life, and it's just generally embarrassing.  The only difference is when I was 10 years old I had the sense to keep the tapes to myself and now I post my goofiness on You Tube.  Ha!

I'm hoping to get the tutorial up soon.  This weekend is going to be SUPER busy, though, so it probably won't happen in the next couple of days, but I'm gonna try.

There is NO SUCH THING as too many photos in a tutorial!

I can't wait to see this one. I think foundation single crochet is the coolest thing ever and I have you to thank for showing it to me. How did I ever live without it?

BTW, I'm loving your "photo studio" setup. I especially like seeing your embroidery floss organization. (At least I think that's what that is...) It took me a while to figure out what the Easter egg was for, but now I think I get it. Very clever, all of it. :)

Also, I totally used to make crazy cassette recordings when I was little.

The blue sewing kit and the Easter Egg (which had chocolates in it ... and is now full of straigh pins ... all which I've had for about 15 years) are where I put the little camera.

And you're totally right. That is my floss stash. See: http://tinyurl.com/n5oaca

Tiffany ... You totally did. I used it as the background for the tutorial and the video. I still want use it (and it's sister fat quarter) in an actual *sewing* project, though. :)

YAY!! I am SO excited that you are doing this! And I totally agree with Susie - NO WAY you can have too many pictures! I understand about the over-explaining. I get accused of it all the time, but really, wouldn't you rather have something over-explained that under-explained? Kudos to you! :D

I'm definitely a n00b (I even manage to screw up granny squares) and I appreciate your over-explaining a lot!
There's nothing worse than a tutorial that jumps from one picture to the next without a proper explaining as to what happened in between.

Also, I *cannot* wait to crochet one of your super awesome bags :D

I agree with Xanthe there is nothing worse than a tutorial which doesn't explain the steps in between. I'm a complete beginner in crochet and I think I can't learn without over-explaining. So please please please keep it up this over-explaining since I'm desperately waiting for your crochet bag tutorial and I can't think of making it without your over-explaining feature :D
I LOVE your studio setup, I want to take those cute pink & blue scissors out of the screen (I desperately need a couple of good scissors these days;))

i have been waiting with baited breath for your pattern to come out...and just yesterday i saw that BOTH my best friends had spent $$$ on new, crocheted summer handbags. I only hope that you don't hurry TOO much, as i just broke my arm and won't be able to crochet for the next month at least! I'll be so jealous of people who get to work on it before me!!

Most of the reasons I will give up on a crochet project is that I can't figure out how they got from A to B, so it's not just newbies like you, Xanthe & skhan, who get lost in patterns. :)

Oh, I am really so glad I found your blog......! :D. I'm getting really anxious now: Hope I manage to get it done, I really want to be able to show you the result of all your trouble with this tutorial coming up with something that will make you glad you did it!
I'll put all my heart in it, I promise !

What a fun shot of the "big picture"! Can't wait to see the pattern when it's done!

And I have to ask: that easter-egg-thing on top of the blue box, is that your "tripod"?!? Since your photos always look so nice and fancy, I thought for sure your tripod would be fancier than mine as well. : )

I enjoyed the peek at your setup! The Easter Egg is where you rest your hand with the crochet in it while you take your picture, right? That's what it looks like to me - which I think is a pretty cool idea - it gives your photos a lot of depth! I love taking pictures - it's one of the first things I notice about a blog, and like another poster I think yours are great! And I totally agree with you and others - there can NEVER be too many pictures!!! I can't wait to see the pattern! Thank you so much!

Clarification on the easter egg. It's where I put the camera to do the video. I put my arms on either side of it and crochet in front of it.

To take the still photos, I hold the crochet with my left hand and take the photos with my right hand.

Thank you so much for your tutorial; I used it to start this jacket http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/81042AD.html and I am hoping your next tutorial will help with the yoke foudation row.
