Mushrooms Finished

OK, these are the most fun things EVER to make.  I love making them so much that I had to consciously and diligently promise myself to not make more than five.  There are just so many other fun things to do.  If I let myself, all I would do until the end of time is make mushrooms.

What kind of alternate mushroom-making life did I keep myself from having?  How would that have turned out?  I guess we'll never know.

Today Andrew and I walked all over the city with my mushrooms and snacks that I hoped would lure birds or squirrels over to my mushrooms.

At Washington Square park, where I found this awesome tree root, two squirrels ran right up to us when we stopped and I got out my bag of Chex Mix.  Would you believe it, they didn't like any of the Chex Mix goodies.  What kind of picky squirrels are they?  In the middle of winter, even.

What's funny is that one of the squirrels climbed up this tree about 3 feet and then peeked around at me as I was setting up the mushrooms.  When I was done setting them up, he ran up to a branch and watched us take pictures.  As we were leaving, he finally came down.  Maybe the bright orange mushrooms were freaking him out.

I tried several times to get birds, too, but they were even more skittish than the squirrels.  Oh, well.  Although a photo with a bird or a squirrel in it would have been beyond priceless, Andrew did an amazing job capturing the cuteness of my little set of mushrooms.

In fact, I had to pick these from over 70 photos!  I'll be uploading a bunch to my Flickr I created a Mushroom Swap Set in my Flickr account, because there are too many good ones to only share three.

Your felt creations are always too good to be true. Just watching your stuffies made me want to make one. If only I can find something similar to those wonderful felts that you have.

Your mushrooms are totally cute (and great photos too - good job you aren't buried in snow there). Lucky swap recipients!

Girl, these are so freakin' amazing. I think the squirrels were mostly jealous of your skillz. :-)

These are so friggin cute! I love the colorful spots you have on top of them. Makes me feel as if they belong in a magic forest, not in my backyard. Bravo!

I can see the temptation of creating many more mushrooms. It'll be so cool to see all the mushroom on the Flickr swap all in one place, on a field somewhere!

brilliant story.. that sounds like something I would do.... although my last encounter with a squirrel didn't go so well, he ran up the back on my leg and scared me half to death.. needless to say he got not treats from me that day!

If I cam across this patch of mushrooms, I would gobble them up. The dots look like cupcake sprinkels. In fact they look REMARKABLY like cupcakes. Yummo!

You have proven to me that mushrooms don't have to be white and red to be cute. I really love the white and red but now I may prefer your less toxic pretty orange ones best of all.

I can see why you found it hard to stop!

these mushrooms are to die for! love the colors and the textures. are they for sale? perhaps giant acorns would have lured some squirrels your way? of course, they might have tried to make off with them...
