I Spent Money On Crafting

When I was getting ready for the move, I set aside my crochet hooks, some stitch markers, scissors, some needles, and a couple other little tools.  I figured I'd decide what raw materials to take later.

Thank goodness I grabbed a ball of yarn, because it gave me one project to do, but I never ended up picking out anything else to bring (everything is in storage).  I wanted to bring everything, so it was hard to choose.

So, frustrated with all tools and no raw materials, I spent $1.32 on a spool of black thread.  I asked my friend Kuky to lend me an embroidery hoop, and she sweetly obliged.  I fully intended on doing a little embroidery, but I ended up crocheting with the thread.

Your Eagle Eyes might have noticed that I have a spool of thread in my tool-stash photo.  It was to make a repair to my jeans on the trip across.  The thought of doing a bunch of embroidery with denim blue thread was unappealing.  I thought black would be interesting and flexible.

My smallest hook with a handle cushion is the 3.25mm, which isn't so small, but whatever, it worked.  Look at what I did.

Not sure what to do with it, or what could be done with it, or if anything *should* be done with it, but BOY HOWDY it felt like heaven to be crocheting.

Heaven.

So, you'll notice that my spending total for this year's craft materials (see craft challenge for more info) has been changed to $1.32.

Oh, and commenting is back with some restrictions ... namely, I have to approve every comment.  I'll be relaxing that restriction as soon as I make a couple other changes, but I was SO HAPPY to see that I got *one* spam comment last night.  It seems like they gave up when they realized their comment didn't show up.  I hope the jerks are gone forever.

Although, now that I think about it, that confirms what I suspected.  There were actual people leaving spam comments on my blog.  A bot would have kept leaving comments not realizing they weren't showing up.

Who do you think is toiling away leaving spam comments on blogs all day long?  8-year-olds in dark basements, the lackeys of third world mobsters, or maybe the minions of hell?  Ha!  I guess we'll never know.

The best part of this post for me was that I misread that sentence at the end to suggest "the lackeys of third world lobsters" were responsible. Beware the lackeys of third world lobsters!

Oh, I have started to think about putting myself on a no-buying-fabric for a year fast. You are inspiring. Way to go!

its either really dumb trolls leaving the comments or people are getting paid for how much spam they leave :/

Wow. That's some lovely, intricate crochet! Can you make me a floor-length caftan? :-)

I'm so impressed with your ability to stick to your non-buying plan during a move - the most craft-disrupting thing there is.

...And, ACK, spammers. It's amazing that the gambit works often enough for them all to keep up the monotony of their commenting. Seriously, I moderate dozens of them from my Mom's blog every single day. WTF?

LOVE the black thing. What do you call it, if you haven't figured out what to do with it? :) I would love to see it fastened down near the hemline of a nice white t-shirt...or maybe grey, for less contrast.

Crocheting with thread...ai yi yi. Never would have occurred to me. I would have ended up sewing leaves together or something. Good job!

Lovely!

I linked your blanket stitch tutorial to my post today-as I found it so helpful!

Thanks for the inspiration,

I love the thread crochet! It's so cool. I'm also wary of lobsters.

I second the minions of hell theory. And congrats on your challenge progress. That is so impressive to me. I like to think I could do the same, but I haven't talked myself up to it yet. Fabric is my weakness....

I find it so amusing that we are all alike...... when faced with the possibility that we may not have ALL of our crafting tools at hand, we go into a panic trying to decide what to bring. Even when I am just going out for the afternoon with the kids, well, I may have 5 minutes to work on SOMETHING, I quickly have to make a decision on what to bring. Oh, the life.

I'd tell you what type of person is leaving spam comments on your blog. But then you'd need to wash your blog's mouth out with soap. :)

I've been having the same problem and moderating comments seems to have helped. I also blocked three ISP addresses and haven't had any spam comments since (touching all wooden objects in vicinity...) Love the crochet :) Crochet is on my ever growing list of things to learn in 2010!

I love the crocheted thread. I started knitting and find it tricky to go back to crochet. But as soon as I saw that I thought "ooo I would line that and hang it on the tree"
