Start The New Year Clean

OK.  2008 took most of my crafty plans, and there weren't all that many to begin with, and threw them in the same hole where America throws it's money.  But I'm not going to let that get me down.  Especially when everywhere I look in my apartment, I see the lovely things I've made or my crafty friends have sent me.

One such item that's keeping my spirits up is the skull glycerin soap you see in the dish above*.  What you can't see all that well, is that embedded in the skull is a plastic nekkid baby.  Ha!  I've got an awesome backlit photo of the soap on Flickr, as well as all the other treasures Bitter Betty sent me way back in October.  Knit doily leaflet?  Yep.  Jaunty owl pin?  Uh huh.  Devil girl candle?  Sure do.  Vintage envelopes with 2 cent stamp?  Right-o.  Striped zipper pouch?  Certainly.  Origami owl card?  Of course. Check 'em out.

Another thing that made me feel good about the passing of 2008 is paging through my last year of posts to remind me of everything that I've done in the last 12 months.  And, while I haven't finished or even started lots of things, I've had a creative and fun year.  It would have been nice if I'd uploaded everything to Flickr so I could make one of those fancy year-end mosaics, but, oh well. :)

I can't wait to see what amazing crafty adventures 2009 brings ...

... and/or where it decides to stash/burn/destroy my free time. ;)

* The reason we've got a cacophony of soaps in the dish is that we realized we had a huge collection of sample, decorative, and gifted soaps that were just hiding in the cabinet (or, in the case of Isa's shell soaps, getting dusty on the shelf).  Not only are we going to save money by not buying more liquid soap, but eventually I will have a plastic nekkid baby to play with.

Maybe it's like the King Cake baby -- whoever the baby is blessed with luck that year. I think that's how it works. Maybe you need to get the baby out by Mardi Gras. Get washin'!

That skull/baby soap is just awesome! And, I have a similar, slightly smaller cacophony of soaps on a dish in one of my bathrooms too :)

I love making my own soaps. Buying melt and pour base is so much cheaper and better for your hands than liquid soap. Watch out or you will have another craft to fall in love with once those lovelies are gone and you miss your glycerin soap. :)

I just made that soap based on the 80's t shirt graphic where the crying woman says, "I forgot to have children."

yes, it's weird... and Flickr sucks up valuable crafting time, so no regrets there.
