BSoD

Last night little Astro, my trusty compu-tor, died.  This morning he was just a glowing blue screen of death (BSoD).  So sad.

I feel like I should be freaking out, but my network administrator makes sure everything gets backed up every night.  I didn't lose a thing ... as far as data is concerned.  Andrew is the bomb!  He even had me semi-set up with a computer by the time I got home from work.

The only problem is that I'm using one of our back-up computers.  What? You don't have back-up computers littering your apartment?  It's pretty bare bones, though - no software at all.

That kinda puts the kibosh on editing photos for posts until I get a new system up and running.  Hopefully not for too long, though, because I saw some great stuff at the art museum this weekend and I have some crafting to share.

In the meantime, I'll be thinking up a name for my new computer.  The budget constraints dictate that I'll be getting a Frankenstein* of pieces-parts from around the apartment, but that won't stop me from dreaming about  this Fujitsu LifeBook® P1620 (and here). Isn't it the CUTEST thing you've ever seen?!?!  And it's a tablet!  OMG!  I really really want one.

* Well, I think I already have my new name.

That so sucks! I hate when computers die! They never give warning that they are ill either, they just go! Glad you didn't lose any data! Very cute replacement to be.

Ok good reminder to backup my photos.

And if your new computer's going to be a mish mash and Andrew's putting it together, you can call it Andrew's Monster. But for some reason that makes me think of a big pillow that Andrew could hug at night. He doesn't by chance HAVE a pillow that he hugs at night that he calls Andrew's Monster? Ha ha ha! Or are you putting it together? Alice's Monster. Ha ha ha! And then what if you had a laptop case with a big eyeball on it? Ha ha ha!

Oh my gawd the things I'm thinking of that are making me laugh out loud. I'll spare you the absolutely silly things I'm thinking of. I'm having way too much fun from your little post.

My profound sympathies on the passing of your valuable tool and comrade.

That Andrew is quite the valuable man to have about the house, though. I'm impressed.

We build our computers up, when one dies we generally have parts to hack another one together until new pieces are aquired, thankfully my old one was replaced with a new one, its never fun when things die and its a pain in the a** when you need to reinstall or rebuild! I have for years called mine Walrus, after the Beatles song and my friend suddenly yelling out "I am the walrus!" when he built and installed windows and it ran perfectly from then on, so now its a tradition of sorts to call it a Walrus, I am currently up to WalrusVI! Goodluck with your FrankenPC!

Hey Alice . . .
If you are looking for a super cheap, cute laptop, my hubby introduced me to the eeePC. It is a very small laptop with linux operating system (can be programmed with Windows XP). It is very portable and has gotten rave reviews. It runs about $499. There was a larger model that was being introduced to the public in April. It even comes in girly colors like pink and baby blue. It is not a gaming computer, but it will definitely handle the necessities.

Awe man!! What a crappy day. At least you have a wonderful man to solve the issue for you. I recently (well, last summer) converted to Mac. I'm still learning it, but so far... I've had zero issues with it compared to my Dell desktop. For some reasons, I just don't get along with Windows. My little Macbook is named Blanche. I love her dearly.

This reminds me of our house. My computer dies and I have about 3 different options--and of course everything is backed up when you're living with a Systems Administrator. I honestly don't know how I managed before he came along.
