Hoo Loves You?

This was an amazing week for mail.  This little surprise showed up, a co-production of Blaize and Bethany.  Blaize found the amazing brooch in Bethany's Etsy shop and Bethany packaged it like a pro.  Isn't it gorgeous!?  I *love* the book-page leaves.  Thank you!

This golden beauty spurred me into collecting all my owl pictures.  Once I got looking, I was surprised I had so many.  I thought I just had two or three.  I took this one in 2003 on a trip to NYC.  Isn't it awesome?  I'd love to him guarding my windows.  To see all my architectural owl photos (and an awesome gold owl graffiti) check out my Flickr.

I don't know when my love of owls started, but I suspect it has something to do with Winnie the Pooh.  I loved those stories.  There was also the tootsie pop owl.  I also recall having a time-telling toy that was a yellow and brown plastic owl with a clock on his stomach (I couldn't find a picture online ...).

Then there was the clock-work owl in Clash of the Titans, which was awesome.  There are the owls in Twin Peaks, which are the best as far as being scary and other-worldly.  And the replicant owl in Blade runner is wonderful, too.

There was an owl living in a tree near our apartment in San Francisco and there was one living outside the building at my last job.  I loved hearing them hoot all day and night.  Can you get owls as pets?  Maybe it's time to go visit the zoo and get some up-close owl-time.

You're welcome. I'm glad the wee owl has a good home.

Yes, Blaize!

I saw those pix, too, but the colors were all wrong, so I wasn't sure. I always forget Flickr doesn't come up in Google Image searches ... (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mariaflash/54328397/) this is the one I had.

my 10yo keeps a stuffed owl in a victorian-looking birdcage hung next to his bed. does that count as a pet?
oh he wants me to mention it's allowed out of the cage whenever it likes.
he also asked me to say stuffed as in softie hedwig, not stuffed dead.
hahaha :-)

Owls are definitely cool birds. Is there any way you can affix an owl nesting box to your apartment building without getting in trouble? Like perhaps right outside your bedroom window?
