I'm not 100% loving the actual Giant Floor Ball pattern, so I've been experimenting.
This is a little free-style stitching. I really like most of it. I wish I'd written down what I did. Maybe I can reverse engineer it when the time comes.
These are simple granite stitch pentagons. I made the solid one first and the star-bursty pattern caught my eye. Next, I tried adding some spike stitches in the green and peach one. Lastly, I changed colors every row, which is awesome. The colors are killing me though. I feel like I'm crocheting with the Easter Bunny's guts. Where the heck did all those pastels come from?!
I think a Giant Floor Ball would make a great, soft footstool next to the couches. I also like the idea of a Not-So-Giant Ball as a couch pillow. I usually end up making a mini pile of pillows to lounge upon, so one big ball would do the trick nicely. In the right colors, and in the right pattern, I think they could look very cool.
For now, though, I'm done with pentagons until I get a flash of inspiration. I'm going to pack up all my samples and all my notes in a ziploc bag and hide it away with all my other moribund projects that peer at me from under the ironing board, waiting for me to resurrect them - my lovely zombie children.
