Are you looking at me?

I have a bazillion things to do and not one of them is learning the shisha stitch at 2 in the morning.  Another thing not on the list, blogging about learning the shisha stitch so I can attach google eyes to things. I should check the list of things I shouldn't be doing more often.  There's lots of fun stuff on there.

I used to have these awesome velvet and gold braid pillows covered in tiny mirrors that were attached with the shisha stitch (similar to this one).  I loved those pillows, but after about 13 years, they fell apart unfixably.

When I got the Embroidery Stitch Bible and saw the shisha stitch in there, I remembered those pillows and decided that I would try it out some day.  Everything came together when I found these huge google eyes ... ah, synchronicity.

The shisha stitch is easy even though it looks fancy.  They say you can use it to attach any flat object, but it's working fine on my bulgy google eye.  I'm so excited ... I have 154 more eyes and lots of floss!

p.s.  I find it disturbing to sew around something that seems to be staring at me.

Haha, I know all too well about having a fun list of things you shouldn't be doing. In fact, I *just* wrote an entire entry on solidifying a to-do list so I can at least keep track! I think it might help.. hehe. Awesome googly eyes btw, those are always fun. Even at 2am :)

I am so intrigued by the google eye possibilities! I just know you're going to open up a whole googly eyed world that I never would have thought of.

me neither , I find it disturbing too, I especially hate when my meals (i.e. prawns with shells and leg and EYES) tend to stare back a me. LOL.

What a truly bizarre thing to do at 2am - I love it! It makes me feel normal for staying up way past my bedtime. Doesn't it make you go cross eyed a bit at that hour? We love googly eyes in my house too but glue will have to suffice for now. Can't wait to see what this leads you to create!

Nice photo of special stitch and eye.
It seems like if you're already up at 2:00 doing something you don't need to do, you may as well photograph it and post a blog entry because then you can say you did something you should be doing (posting on your blog to keep others from doing what we should be doing on our lists).
Viva los eyes de googly!

I've actually been thinking about how it is possible to attach those little mirrors. And now I know. Thank you! :-)

Not enough hours or googly eyes in the day. That compulsion - a woman after my own heart.

I just got caught up on all your posts! ( I have been too long in he craft cave!) sewing dolls always make me nervous because of the eye thing!
I love that stitch though. Hmmm do I need another craft book?

I'm just loving the google-eyes-in-place-of-sparkly-stuff. It's like skull motif in place of flowers motif, but so much... subtler. Nuttier. Original. Future.

Ah! I have a load of different-coloured googly eyes and have been wondering how to attach them to fabric (obviously for card, glue is the thing...). Some fancy embroidery stitch! I'll have to wait for a patient day before trying to teach myself that one.

Cheers,

- alice (a different one)
