Neopolitan Blanket

All I could think about when I was making this blanket was the Neopolitan Coconut candies I would get as a child at the Pick-A-Mix station at the grocery store.  They are heaven!  I also liked the Jelly Nougats which look totally gross to me now.  Anyway, crocheting this blanket made me CRAVE candy.

The blanket is made of worsted weight cotton and is alternating rows of single and double crochet.  The single crochet gives some structure to the blanket and the double crochet makes it cuddly.

The top and bottom edge have an edging of *dc ch dc ch dc* all in one stitch and then a sc on either side.  The right and left edges are just single crochet.

I'll be mailing this blanket to Barakah Life on Monday.  I heard of this project via CraftyPod.  Khadija will be hand delivering the blankets she collects to expectant mothers in Africa.  The donation deadline is January 25th and she's accepting sewn, knitted, or crochet blankets.  That's plenty of time to make a baby blanket!

I loved those candies. I wonder if I would still like them. Also, some baby in Africa is going to get a nice blanket. That, my friend, is an excellent thing.

Thanks for drawing my attention to this charity sewing project-- I've posted about it on my blog and plan to sew a blanket as well.

...And I've linked to your lovely blanket, how cute!!

I am not familiar with the candy but I am loving the color of your blanket. Now I am having second thoughts if I should just give the premie star afghan that I'm planning to give to a friend's child. Hmnn, I think I'll donate that under the child's name.

I love the pink and brown combo. I am just itching to either take up knitting again or to learn to crochet. I can't decide which. I have blankets on the mind. I will admit that just hearing you talk about all the stitches you used makes me scared.

That is a really wonderful gift for an expecting mom who doesn't have people lavishing baby things on her.

This is just marvelous. I love the colors & the scalloped edge. I just started a scarf with a similar edge and it took me forever to find a knit stitch that would have the ruffly look I wanted.

The only thing I'm hoping to do on a daily basis is take a photograph. Partly because I already take so many photos and partly because I'm eager to do it--I think anything else would feel burdensome.

I really love the colours of this blanket - edible! My mother stopped buying Neopolitan icecream for us as kids, because nobody would ever eat the strawberry.....

How beautiful! It reminds me of the chocolate/vanilla/stawberry wafer cookies that my Grandpa used to hide for me and my brother to find when we were kids.
