Black & Pink Commission Handbag

This commission-er found me when she was Googling something (I didn't think to ask what), and emailed me to see if I would make her a handbag.  She was very specific.  She wanted Barb's handbag with black, pink, and white replacing the blues and ecru.  She even verified the dimensions, the presence of pockets, etc.  She is a detail-oriented woman after my own heart.

The resulting handbag is adorable.  I had to buy new fabric for the lining (HAD to ... really).  I couldn't decide between getting this print in white on black or black on white - so, I bought them both!  I used the black for the lining and the white for the pocket.

At first I didn't know why I loved this fabric so much, but when I got home I realized that it totally reminded me of the wonderful Japanese designs in Japanese Patterns, which Andrew bought me for my last birthday (over a year ago).

Do you see all those bookmarks?  That's only the right half ... there are more on the left half.  The plan is to embroider these designs.  I'd really love to tackle the dot designs in French knots.  But it might be another year before that project moves to the top of the list.

again, Alice, amazing work...

i purchased a stash of more yarn and some complimenting and contrasting fabrics while visiting the US and when i head home, my goal is to finally tackle a handbag...

i plan to use the idea of the buttons and an adjustable handle for when it stretches. i've bookmarked that page from your site ;)

now i just have to mentally master the art of sewing in the lining... that part has me a bit scared.

as always, though, i love your work

Oh, I love both prints! Really really lovely BUT embroidering those is another matter for me. Gosh, I still need to recall what my teacher taught me in grade school, and I've been wanting to do that since forever. Maybe I'll start with straight lines first just like what I saw in your tutorials. Thanks by the way for that, it's really helpful as a refresher. :)

I love the fabric of the lining!

I went out and bought The Happy Hooker last night for my sis-in-law and myself. I can't wait to start studying it so I can make things other than scarves.

Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I missed out on your give-away. Bummed. It must have been when I was trying to stop being a blog-reading-slave... Your sea creatures are so adorable! And I see that you like Japanese fabrics too. I am going to have my own give away and thought I would try to spread the word to others who like Japanese fabrics!
