Lose A Week, Gain A Year

I'm finally starting to feel better.  It sucks to come out from under a huge pile of used tissues and realize a whole week has passed you by.  Thanks for all the well wishes *and* crochet hook holder love!  You guys really make a girl feel better. :)

I lost a week and gained a year ... I turned 36 this weekend.  Yay!  I have a great haul of presents, but the topper is this mini stash starter pack from Andrew:

BABY ALPACA!  It's not just the name ... it's 80% Baby Alpaca and 20% Acrylic.  AMAZINGLY soft.  I got two balls each of charcoal, forest, plum, and cream.  This is officially the fanciest yarn I've ever touched.  For reals.  I've never gone into a LYS (local yarn store).  Funny thing is, he found this in the back of a fancy boutique in Philly's Old City, not a yarn store.  I've been literally dreaming about this yarn.  I'm not sure what I'm going to make yet.  Ideas?

First of all: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
(I wish I had something else to give other than congratulations).
Second of all, showing this post to my husband had its good results (he just said that it's a great present, and I answered that I could do great even with acrylic, since next week we celebrate mother's day).
Finally, happy birthday , again!

Happy birthday!!

And Andrew! What a guy. I will have to show this post to Alan. Oh wait. I have loads of yarn. Ummm maybe hint about some fabric instead. Er but it won't be as fun then. Alan will just say buy it. Oh hell that's ok too!! :)

Happy birthday and I'm glad you're feeling better! That yarn looks yummy and what an amazing gift! That Andrew is a clever fella. I never know what to do with angora. It's so soft and cuddly that I kind of just want to snuggle with it the way it is! :)

Happy Birthday! And welcome back to the well-world. May you rock even harder in your 36th year than you did during your 35th. Woo!

Happy birthday! The colours are beautiful. Since the yarn is so soft, I would suggest a shawl. The only problem is that you would probably never be able to take it of again once you've draped yourself in it :-)

Happy Birthday - yay for your great pressies :D

Perhaps the yarn would lend itself really nicely to some lace knitting. There's some great patterns on Knitty at the mo'.

Happy B-day!

I suggest a cowl neck scarf. That way you can bury your face in the softness.

Happy birthday! Welcome to year 36. As someone who is nearing the end of that year, I would have to say that overall, 36 is pretty good.

Love the yarn! (Alpacas are so wonderfully fuzzy.)

Feliz cumpleanos!
You don't need to make anything with that yarn, just use it for the most comfortable pillow I can imagine. Glad your feeling better because it's no fun to be sick on the big day.

I can almost feel the yarn from two thousand miles away. I love alpaca yarn. I've only knitted three things but one of them was a scarf for my sister out of Alpaca yarn and it was unbelievably soft.

Andrew really knows his lady!!

I think its too late to say feliz cumpleanos, but I agree with dovie, just use it as a nice pillow. :)
But do you know why alpaca is so soft? The surface of alpaca is very similar to silk (this why very soft baby alpaca has a cold feel sometimes) but it still has the warmth of wool. So a great fibre..
Very good for socks for instances.. HAve a good knitting time..EILEEN
