My Very Own Handbag

The handbag above is mine, all mine.  I *love* this handbag.  If you make stuff (and if you are reading my blog, you probably do), I suggest you make one (of whatever it is that you make) for yourself.  It feels so good to spoil yourself the same way you like to spoil other people.

I'm not a handbag connoisseur.  I like having a cute purse, but I usually buy cheapies from Claire's or Target.  The only reason I made myself this bag is because my last one was starting to come apart.  It was just too ridiculous for me to buy another $15 purse when I freakin' make purses.

I modeled my handbag after the one I created for Bitter Betty.  Instead of the anatomical heart cameo, I decided on the three blood drips.  My concept here is Asian Horror Movie ... which is why the blood is dripping *up* the purse.  I left the drip ends open, like I did on BB's handbag. I like that the blood drips kind of resemble simple flowers.  I also like how they look a lot like this awesome Alexander Henry fabric that I'm seeing on everyone's blog.  I *must* get some of that fabric!

Not only is it nice to spoil yourself, but now that I'm carrying around one of the handbags I sell, I can see first hand how it performs in the real world, which is invaluable information.  You can see that the handles have stretched a little after weeks of use, but they still are in proportion - thank goodness.

I put a pocket in my purse that is split into a 4" pocket for my cell phone, a 3" pocket for my headset (I put lotion in it for the picture), and a 1" pocket to hold a pen. (Sorry Bethany, I didn't think of the pen thing for yours.)

Just for fun, I thought I'd show you what is in my purse.  Let's see ... my organizer, my wallet (with blue paint chip tucked in the front pocket because I liked that the color was named "Confidence"), lip gloss, sunscreen lip gloss for car trips, ear plugs for live shows (the purple things in their carrying case), cough drops, cinnamon Listerine strips, hand sanitizer, lotion, a pen, yarn scraps in a zip lock for fabric matching (sticking out of the organizer), tissues, mace, and spiked brass knuckles (on the left, under the keys).  You probably shouldn't sneak up on me if you recognize me on the street.

I'm not a handbag connoisseur either. I have a friend who only buys Coach bags (I think. Is that a brand?) If I'm not using your purse I'm using a big big one that I got at Old Navy on sale for $1.97! $1.97!!!! Loved that amount so much that I can still remember the price.

And hee hee! I like that you carry mace and spiked brass knuckles. So fun going along with soft tissue and sweet smelling lip gloss.

OK, not that I need them, but just for the sake of curiosity, where does one acquire brass knuckles? And how is it that I actually, somewhere in my brain, did not believe that brass knuckles were anything more than a threat made by gangsters?

I love the bag. And yeah, why aren't I treating myself to my own goods?

The mace and brass knuckles made me laugh. You need a cute cover for the tissues.

My phone line decided to work again for awhile. It's magic. MAGIC, I TELL YOU. But the repair person is still coming out tomorrow, because the phone and hence the DSL are only working intermittently. Meanwhile, I was looking at the picture of the stuff that goes in your purse, and, for some reason, starting singing: "Here I am! Rock me like a hurricane!" Your purse stuff makes me sing dumb songs. Happy now? Huh? Huh?

hi!
oh, I loved the idea of showing the inside of one's purse... I think I'm going to do the same soon... to much rubbish inside of mine!
bye, manela

It's a beautiful bag - and you certainly deserve one too! Maybe you should whip up a brass knuckle holder next, it looks a bit scary ;-)

I have been a lurker but this post made me have to comment. Love the bags you make, I like that they are a little different.

makati, I think there's a flickr group showing what's in people's handbags . . .

as much as I want to concentrate on your point about making things for your own self (yes! yes! yes!), I too want some of those brass knuckles!

love this bag, but then again, i love all your stuff...
i was wondering, how can you stand parting with them? everytime i have to pass something i made along, it takes me awhile (and chocolate, which explains the extra 20 pounds)to cope. any tricks up your sleeve for these dreadful moments?

do you actually know who is the author of this image, and where i can find it? i had it on my hard drive for so long, i've lost the source. let me explain:
sometimes, while surfing, i come upon things i like, and usually save the pages for further reference (i am more organized now, thanks to del.icio.us, but i had no respect for navigator bookmarks) and sometimes i clean up, and somehow this image ended up alone in a folder, and i couldn't remember where it's from! i was hoping someone would, but forgot to post the question (as is my custom. i have the attention span of a goldfish, i prefer them to fruitflys, seeing as how they are kinda gross)
now i remember i had to post this and forgot. so if you know any info on it, please send me;-)

The sister bag! SO killer.

I haven't posted my "crap closet" craftroom and now another way I am not revealing myself.. I haven't dumped out my handbag either.

i love the "confidence" paint chip.

Very cute bag, I love the embroidery on the front. And how clever to make a pen pocket! My pens are always getting lost in the bottom of my purse.

Love the bag, love the drips, the color, the lining everything! Funny--your purse for yourself came last...I think, being such a beginner I was more inclined to make bags I knew I'd like, especially with the mistakes I was bound to make!

I love a sweet, girly crochet bag filled with weapons.

Yeah, I rarely make myself anything either. And pre-blog, I never took pictures of anything I made for other people. It's as though I've been crafting into the wind all this time.
