I bought
Nadja on DVD for Andrew because it's one of his favorite movies. We watched his VHS of it when we were dating. It's an early film from the director Michael Almereyda, whose work I love love love.
I recently re-watched it, and it's a much tighter movie then I remembered. It's very indie and immediate. The first time I saw it, I thought of it as a student-movie, but it's not.
There's interesting use of
PixelVision footage and an interesting updating of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Elina Löwensohn is an amazing and beautiful actress. I loved her in
Fay Grimm (and other Hal Hartley movies), too. Speaking of Hal Hartley, he also used Martin Donovan (another wonderful actor in Nadja). I guess Hal and Michael have the same taste in actors. I had totally forgotten that Peter Fonda is in the movie.
